An Amazing Handwriting Worksheet | Free Printable
I have always known my youngest daughter has very large handwriting. Isn’t that the norm with all early years children? Perhaps not. But in her case {not forgetting that she is only six!} this is the reality. During our most recent Parent/Teacher interview, I was told that reducing the size of her handwriting was one of the main things to focus on before the end of the term. Which is perfectly fine and something I have been doing with her {for ages} already. I guess she’s just a naturally big writer. A handwriting worksheet would be helpful right?
I was also told that I would be sent home helpful handwriting worksheets that would encourage her to keep their letters in the correct formation. Tall letters like your t, f, l etc in the ‘sky’. Keeping your e, a, i, o etc in the ‘grass’ and the tailed letters, such as j, p, q and so on to be placed in the ‘ground’. After seeing a sample of the worksheet, it made perfect sense, so I was excited to get them sent home.Β
After a few weeks, these handwriting worksheets were finally sent home, however, they weren’t going to help her reduce the size of her writing. If anything they would make her handwriting size bigger because the lines were so huge. How was this supposed to help her? So I made the decision to stall dinner for twenty minutes and whip up my own version of the worksheet.Β
It took a few attempts and printouts to get the size ‘just right’ – but I finally cracked it. Never have I ever found myself repeating “Now make sure your ‘t’ goes into the sky’ or “remember to put your ‘j’ into the ground’ so much in my entire life.Β

As mentioned previously, your tall letters go into the sky, your lower case letters stay in the grass and your tailed letters go into the ground. It’s honestly such a simple method to teach children their letter formations. It blew my mind and I’m almost 39!Β

This is a free printable handwriting worksheet and I truly hope they help your little ones with their writing. Annabelle, who is currently P2 loves to write and even though her handwriting still isn’t the neatest, she’s still only six. She’s the one who keeps telling me “Practice makes perfect, Mama!” – which is the cutest approach to anything, ever! So making this handwriting worksheet for her was 100% worth the effort.
