10 things to pack for a day at the beach

The kids break off school this week {so excited!} for their summer holidays and I am thrilled. Over the last few weeks, you could see them getting more and more tired. So they’re as ready for the summer as I am. Anything for a break from packing those lunchboxes every morning and trying to get them into school before the bell! We are now looking forward to slow mornings, picnics at the park and if the weather is kind, days out at the beach.  We absolutely love the beach and Northern Ireland has some stunning coastal beaches; so there are…

The pretty umbrellas of West Street

Social media can be a wonderful place. As I scrolled through my Facebook feed, over my morning cup of tea – like we all do I’m sure. I caught wind of a new addition to an old street which just so happened to be in one of my favourite towns, Carrickfergus.  West Street, if I’m honest, isn’t a street we have went down during our many visits to Carrick – and we’re there a lot! We always get off our train and head straight down through the North Gate, towards the castle. We spend our days at the amazing Pirate Marina…

An evening at the Lost City Adventure Golf in Belfast

Mini golf is something I remember playing loads when I was a child. I was never any good at it, but it was fun to play nevertheless. At Cityside {Yorkgate} in Belfast, we have a new adventure golf centre open called The Lost City Adventure Golf. When we saw it just before Christmas {when it was still under construction} we were excited for it to open because it looked amazing – and that was just from the outside! We had a little peek inside and we could not wait for it to be open!  Just last week, we attended their…

Visiting Dublin Zoo & their new Zoorassic World!

As the Autumn rolls in with it’s falling leaves and all of its colour and cold windy days, I can’t help but think back to the heat of the summer. We had such an amazing time and on our Summer bucket list, we hopped on a train to visit Dublin zoo.  The kids had a blast on the train down, which took about 2hrs – but thanks to travel games, tablets and snacks we made it there just fine. Even the four-year-old handled the long journey like an absolute trooper.  Our first stop was to the Meerkat restaurant, not to…

An afternoon in Minnowburn – National Trust

A few weeks ago I caught something on social media about a National Trust site in Belfast, that I had never heard of before. They had done a little work on it recently and made a little nature play area – we love a nature-made play area! As soon as I read that they were trying to make it a little like the Giants Lair in Newry, I had to take the kids. The Giants Lair in Newry isn’t easy to get too if you don’t drive, in fact, it’s damn near impossible to travel too as a non-driver. So Minnowburn…

In search of Giants with National Trust NI

A few weeks ago we were invited along to visit the historical basalt columns at the Giants Causeway, with National Trust NI. I have visited the Causeway myself a few times when I was younger – whether it was on a school trip or with family {as we had a caravan not very far from the causeway} but my Husband had never been.  Since we don’t drive, I was a little worried about how we were going to get there – as the only way I knew of getting to the Causeway was via those tour buses that we regularly…

Making memories on the beach of Castlerock

On the North Coast of Northern Ireland, in County Londonderry is a little seaside village called Castlerock. It’s a place I spent a huge chunk of my childhood in and it holds a special place in my heart. Sharing my favourite place in the world with my family has been lovely over the last few years and what makes this time more amazing, is teaching my children the very thing that my Dad taught me to do, all those years ago on that very same beach; body boarding.  Like all of our day trips, we hopped on a train and…

Gruffalo Hunting at Colin Glen Forest

Ever since the Gruffalo trail opened at Colin Glen Forest in Belfast, we have wanted to go. But every time we tried, something else got in the way – as is life! But after I made our Summer Bucket List I made sure it was on our list. Then one day, we packed a picnic & off we went on a Gruffalo Hunt.  The Gruffalo is a much-loved children’s book throughout the world and it’s also a favourite of my daughter’s. We love nothing more than sitting on her bed together, her little bare toes wriggling with excitement as I…

An afternoon at Craigavon Lakes

Northern Ireland is a beautiful, beautiful country and the majority of it still remains a mystery to me. Craigavon was a place in particular that I had never been too before and we excited to visit. We were actually there to have a little shop around Rushmere Shopping centre ahead of National Children’s Day and if not for the bus driver telling us about Craigavon Lakes, then well, we would have missed a treat. Where you get off the bus at Rushmere Shopping Centre, you can walk across a flyover bridge & that leads you straight down to Craigavon Lakes…
