An afternoon in Minnowburn – National Trust

A few weeks ago I caught something on social media about a National Trust site in Belfast, that I had never heard of before. They had done a little work on it recently and made a little nature play area – we love a nature-made play area! As soon as I read that they were trying to make it a little like the Giants Lair in Newry, I had to take the kids. The Giants Lair in Newry isn’t easy to get too if you don’t drive, in fact, it’s damn near impossible to travel too as a non-driver.
So Minnowburn was swiftly added to our Summer activity list and I couldn’t wait to take the kids to spend an afternoon there. Buses nearby to the National Trust site don’t come along very often, but we made it there easily enough and even though it showered a little here & there the sun mostly stayed out to play.
In case you’re a non-driver like us, we got the bus from Laganside Bus Centre in Belfast to Drumbo {got off where the bus driver instructed us too, which is near Shaws Bridge} and walked down to the Crown Plaza hotel. The road to Minnowburn is just across the road from the hotel.

We found the perfect little table & chairs to have our picnic on!

We had such a fun afternoon at Minnowburn National Trust – it is definitely a place that we will visit again!
If you plan to visit Minnowburn and don’t drive, like ourselves, be sure to check out my 10 places to visit in Northern Ireland as nondrivers post on the blog. It will provide you with what buses you can get and from where.

This looks like such a fun afternoon and your kiddos are absolutely adorable. Thanks for sharing!
I have to be honest and say I’ve never heard of Minnowburn before. But it looks like a lovely place to take the kids for a day out 🙂

Sounds like you had an amazing family day out with kids. I’ve never been to this place but it looks really peaceful and great for a fun day out!
We did, thank you! And it’s a very peaceful place!
This looks like so much fun and it’s great that it’s nature made too, it just seems that bit more better for kids who love the outdoors! x
It looks like a beautiful place. We have only just joined the National Trust and have only visited two properties so far but love it!
