A Guided Audio Tour with the Corpus Museum in Leiden, Holland

When my eldest daughter and I knew we were going to Holland for our family holiday this year, we got so excited due to the amount of museums in the Netherlands. And if you’re curious, like us, then you’ll be shocked to know that there are 456 museums in total! Isn’t that insane and obviously, we could not possibly visit them all. So, aside from visiting the Naturalis Biodiversity Center in Leiden, we added the Corpus EXPERIENCE Museum to our list.
What is the Corpus EXPERIENCE?
Long story short, it is a journey through the human body. Literally. It is like nothing else we have ever seen or been to before and it was amazing. You can stand inside a human ear, the respiratory system and even the mouth. Have you ever wanted to stand on a tongue and see what it might feel like? Well, now you can.

You aren’t allowed to take any video footage or photos during your 50 minute guided audio tour. There are lockers provided to place your belongings into, which I would advise doing as there are a few interactive parts throughout the tour.
How to Book your Corpus EXPERIENCE
Your Corpus EXPERIENCE needs to be booked online to reserve your time slot. For two adults & one child, it cost me around €56 and in all honesty? It was worth every penny. There is a minimum age requirement of 6yrs for this experience as there is a part of the tour , particularly in the reproduction system, that displays sperm etc which some parents may not wish their children to see. However, the show is super cute and highly educational for all ages.
Cafe & Interactive area
There is a cafe on site, right at the top of the museum after your tour ends. With the open windows and views for days, it is a beautiful view to sit and enjoy a drink & a muffin. After you have had a pit stop and enjoyed some refreshments, there is an interactive section on each floor as you head down to the gift shop. Filled with cool and educational hands on displays for kids to enjoy.

I think there are maybe 5 floors in total of interactive medically science focused displays for you to enjoy. From beating hearts, to the intestines and so much more. And it is open until 5pm. Very cool and we did not know this part existed when we booked, so it was a nice surprise and it means you can make an afternoon of it at the Corpus Museum if you wanted too.

My girls really enjoyed it and at the time of our visit, they were 9 & 17. So age is not a factor for this museum and it is suitable for all ages. It is engaging, interesting and even though the location is a little further out, than we expected, it was still an excellent experience.

Something to definitely tick off the list if you are visiting Holland and interested in medical science and human anatomy. And besides, how cool is the building the Corpus Museum is housed in? Incredible, right? It looks even better in person!
Have you visited the Corpus Museum before? Or, would you like to?
