We have quite a busy home, which I am sure all of us can relate to. It can get pretty crazy, right? Being a parent and having the job to remember everything can be daunting, however, once our kids get to a certain age surely they can do more for themselves. It’s a no brainer, right? Things like getting up, dressed, brushing their teeth etc. All without prompt!

Even jobs like making sure their school bags are ready for the following day and making sure they have their PE kit packed if needed. Simple jobs that can make our life that little bit easier. So, I created a simple checklist for my kids to complete both before school and after. There is even a section for the weekend and they all tie in with when they can have screen time, too.Β

I have printed off one each for my youngest, my tween and my teen because the structure isn’t a bad thing and if anything, it’s good for them, right? They are now hung in their bedrooms {laminated, obviously – I love my laminator!} and it’s nice to see them being ticked off each day. My hope is that at some point, these easy tasks will turn into a habit and not something I have to repeat 4567 times a day.Β

You can relate to that, right? It drives me bonkers! So, I am living for this checklist.Β

Some of you may think checklists are bad or inappropriate. Which, I wish I could understand, but I think teaching our children self-management is a great thing. It helps them become self-sufficient and I for one want my children to be able to take care of themselves – so giving them a leg up with basic skills is a beautiful gift to them.Β

Chore wise, my children {bar the youngest} do their own laundry, from washing it to putting it away. Annabelle puts her own laundry away {she’s seven}. They all take out the rubbish and recycling, empty bins & clean bathrooms. Again, this is bar the youngest who makes her bed, tidy up her dolls house and teddy bears. She also puts her own laundry away and brushes the floors.Β

It’s so nice having the children chip in because we all live under one roof and therefore all need to work together to keep it ship-shape.Β

Don’t think for a second that this is always easy to keep up and maintain with the kids. They, like us, have good days and bad days. Days where they are full of energy and other days where motivation is a pure struggle. I get it, we, as parents get those too. So we understand. However, learning to push through, get what needs to be done, completed and then you have the rest of the day to yourself. Simples.

You can download your own Kids Daily Checklist printable on this post. I really hope it helps you and your kids as it’s helped us. We still have a way to go before the kids tick them all off without prompting. But we’re getting there! Rome wasn’t built in a day!Β
