Creme Egg Scotch eggs | Recipe

It’s almost Easter, we all know this. It’s a crazy thought I know, but this is the reality. The eggs have been in our stores, tempting us since New Year’s Eve – which is also bonkers – again a reality! So I decided to whip up something pretty exciting, seriously chocolatey and may cause possible sugar high/followed by a sugar crash situation. So apologies in advance, but they’re worth it, trust me. Have you ever heard of Creme Egg Scotch eggs? No, neither had I {until recently}. But I knew as soon as I saw them, that I had to make a batch {not for myself – that would be insane} and also share the recipe and how-to with you guys.
So here goes!
What you need –
- Creme eggs {I made a batch of 10}
- Chocolate muffins
- Chocolate cocoa powder
- Butter
- Icing Sugar
- Melting chocolate
- Oreos

My local Spar typically didn’t have any chocolate muffins left. So I just made a chocolate cake {as you do} and I just crumbled it all up into a bowl.

I made a batch of chocolate buttercream using 300g Icing Sugar, 150g unsalted room-temperature butter & a sprinkle of cocoa powder. I added the buttercream to my sponge crumbs {is that even the right term do you think?} and mixed together. The consistency you’re after is mouldable and not too wet. Keep a portion of your crumbs to one side to add to your bowl, if required, to gain the right consistency.

Next, unwrap all of your creme eggs and place to one side. Things can get a little messy from this point so maybe remove any rings your wearing too – just as a heads up.

Take a small portion of your cake mix and make a space for your egg with your thumb.

Once you’ve placed a creme egg onto the sponge, get another small portion and place on the top. Then it’s just about moulding the two halves together into a ball.

Repeat this for as many eggs as you have then place them in the fridge to chill for one hour.

Take your chilled scotch creme eggs from the fridge, melt your chocolate and then cover each scotch creme egg with the melted chocolate. Crush up some Oreo cookies and sprinkle onto the melted chocolate. Place into the fridge once again to chill.

And that’s it really.
This is a simple no bake recipe {I did have to bake a cake due to no chocolate muffins available in the local shop}. They taste incredible, a bit like a giant cake pop with a delicious creme egg at the core.

I’ll not lie, the cross-section made me very excited! I mean, look at it!

Oh my gosh these look insane! Amazing 🙂 x
They taste JUST as insane too!!
I have seen people make these with brownies around the egg but not muffins. What a fab idea.
I think my girls would love to make these. Yum! Yum! x
It’s sort of the same idea! Crushed brownies or crushed muffins. The muffins, in fairness tasted like brownies! Haha! They are so much fun to make (and easier than some people think!).
