Family & Kids subscription boxes from uOpen | Review

Subscription boxes seem to be the new ‘thing’. You can be sent anything from baking products, arts & crafts, sweets and treats from all over the world. All through the post, for a reasonable monthly fee. I used to be a huge collector of the Loot Crate subscription boxes, as well as the monthly Taffy Mailbox. Which the kids loved!

But this review is with uOpen, a website where finding the perfect subscription box for you is made easy. Whatever your interest or hobby, uOpen has split all of their subscription boxes into categories. From Health & Fitness, Home & Living, Food, Books and so much more. The category I will be talking most about today is the Family & Kids category.

I love the idea of a subscription box – so, if I can say that as a 38-year-old woman. Then you can only imagine the excitement a child gets when they receive a mystery box through the post. I was kindly sent three subscription boxes and I was sent the following;

Sand Art Canvas box {RRP £12.00 per box}
Superhero Mask & Cuffs kit {RRP £10.95 per box}
Bug Hunt box {RRP £12.00 per box}

Sand Art Subscription Box

As soon as my daughter Annabelle spied her two favourite words “Sand Art” – she could not open that box quick enough! In the Sand Art subscription box, you get two small canvas boards, a pencil & a paintbrush, an easel, a collection of printed pages with designs on them, some PVA glue and a selection of coloured sand.

This subscription box is fun, however, Annabelle had both canvases designed within 20 minutes. I love the idea of the mini easel that is provided in the subscription box. It means you have a cute way to showcase your designs once they are fully dried {which takes up to 24hrs}.

Do I think it is worth £12.00? I have to be honest. No, I don’t think it is. I think it’s a little overpriced for what you get inside. It is a fun subscription box but maybe if there were more than 2 canvases provided and perhaps a few more colours of sand made available? Then I think it would be worth the £12.00 fee per box.

Superhero Mask & Cuffs Kit Subscription box

If my daughter was to tell you one thing she loved, it would hands down be Superheroes. She is obsessed. So this subscription box was perfect to send out for her. Inside the box you get a superhero mask {available in blue & red}, a pair of cuffs and a little bag of 20 felt stickers.

This is another cute subscription box however the only issue I had with it was how difficult the felt stickers were to remove the plastic backing. Other than that, it’s a really fun subscription box and something my daughter loves to wear.

It encourages imaginative play and as I type this, she is throwing balls at me and laughing because apparently, she is able to go invisible. As parents we just need to go along with their wonderful little imaginations, right?

Is it worth the £10.95 price tag per box? I’m inclined to say yes. Purely based on how much play she gets out of it. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t think it was a little overpriced because I think it is. I think if there was a cape provided, then I think the Superhero subscription box would be perfect. All superheroes wear capes, right? Nevermind what Edna Mole, says!

Thankfully, Annabelle was quite intuitive and used the red tissue paper provided in the box to use as a cape. Other than the lack of cape, I think it’s a great box and Annabelle really did enjoy designing her own Superhero mask and cuffs. She also enjoyed filling out her Superhero profile card, too.

Bug Hunt Subscription Box

Who doesn’t love a big hunt? My girls are definitely more curious then my boys and I love that this kit provides you with everything you need for a successful bug hunt. In the box, you will find a pooter {a bug catcher}, a mini wooden spoon x 2, a magnifying bug pot, a wipe clean bug spotter sheet & pen as well as 4 Bug Bingo player cards with counters.

You will also be given a Bug Hunting booklet, that not only tells you everything that can be found in your subscription box. But it will also tell you how to use your different bug hunting equipment. It also lets you know some fun bug facts, including a selection of bugs and where you can find them. There is also bug themed word search to complete too.

Do I think this Bug Hunt subscription box is worth the £12.00 per box fee? Yes, I do. It’s quite interactive and unlike the sand art box subscription box, this kit can be used again & again. Making me more inclined to pay the £12 fee. Especially since I have a young child who is obsessed with bugs! You’re even supplied with a Bug Bingo game {perfect to take when we’re travelling!}.

Are there any other subscriptions boxes that intrigue me? Of course!

Being a big gamer {and geek} the Geek & Gaming section with loot boxes galore sparks my interest. A lot! I love the idea of baking subscriptions boxes, too – they’d be lots of fun to do with the kids on rainy afternoons or ‘just because of’ mornings!
