Ways to Make your Small Bathroom seem Bigger

Nobody likes to have a small bathroom. You are limited in terms of what you can do with it and you won’t be able to have too many accessories either. Even though you might not be able to change the physical size of your bathroom, it is still more than possible for you to make it feel bigger with a few simple changes.

Install a Corner Sink

The first thing that you need to do is install a corner sink. Sometimes having a pedestal sink can really disrupt the traffic lane and it can also make it much harder to get around. It also makes the bathroom appear small as well, so this is a fantastic solution. Placing the corner sink across from the toilet works far better than having a sink across from the shower. Otherwise, the opening of the shower will create an awkward traffic lane.

Shower Curtains

Shower curtains move back and forth so they can save you a lot of space, especially when compared to a glass door that has to swing out. Shower-tub combos can fit into very small spaces as well, and some tubs are only 60” in length. If you are struggling to fit a tub, then you can consider a corner unit instead. Sometimes these can work brilliantly in small bathrooms but do take into account that they can be much bulkier so you won’t be able to have as much other furniture. Failing that, a standard shower unit can work great. There are plenty of square designs available that can fit into the smallest of spaces, making them ideal for tiny bathrooms with seemingly little roaming space.

Float or Round the Vanity

Having a floating vanity can really make the whole space appear bigger. When you mount it above the floor, you free up space underneath and you also create another dimension of space. Extend the Counter

When you have a small bathroom, you will need to make the most out of every inch of space you have. One way for you to do this would be for you to install a shelf over the toilet. If you don’t extend it too much then it won’t get in the way, and it is a great storage space that doesn’t take anything away from the room. You may be thinking that you don’t have much room for a shelf and this is understandable, but remember that the shelf doesn’t have to be full-length. You can have a tiny shelf if needed because any surface is always a good addition to your small bathroom.

Paint!

Believe it or not, a new splash of paint can make a room feel way bigger. If you do want to paint your bathroom then you may want to opt for colours such as cream, duck egg blue or even pale green. Tonal, pastel colours are fantastic here because they add a splash of colour without making the room feel too dark. A lot of people think that they need to match the bathroom suite in with the colour of the room as well, but this is not the case at all. If you have a blue furniture set, then having blue walls would be far too much colour and it would also make the room feel way smaller than it is. For this reason, you need to opt for cream paint. If you have a cream suite and then cream walls, however, then this is not a problem. You can easily add colour through your accessories, such as towels, bars of soap and even shampoo and conditioner dispensers.

Ceiling

Sometimes your ceiling can have a huge part to play when it comes to how small, or even how big your bathroom feels. If you want to really make the most out of the space that you have then you might want to paint the ceiling white in colour. When you do this, you create the illusion of space and you can also open the entire room up. Another thing that you can do is opt for spotlights, instead of a single light fixture. Spotlights don’t protrude from the ceiling at all, and they maximise the amount of light in the room without being too overbearing. Hanging lights lower the appearance of the roof, they only give light off for the centre of the room and they are also not as sleek. When choosing your bulbs, the brighter the better.

Windows

If your bathroom has a window, then try and hang your blinds higher above the window frame. The higher you do this, the better. This is another great trick that will really help to create the illusion of space. As if that wasn’t enough, it is also a fantastic way for you to gain a bit of privacy. Your blinds should match in with the bathroom theme you have. For example, if you have a blue suite then your blinds should be blue. If you have a white suite however then you need to match them in with your décor rather than opting for the same colour. The main reason for this is because white will stain much easier when compared to any other colour and it will also show up mould much more as well. If you are having a mould problem, then consider having an air vent so that any steam can escape from the bathroom without forming droplets on everything you have.
