The pretty umbrellas of West Street

Social media can be a wonderful place. As I scrolled through my Facebook feed, over my morning cup of tea – like we all do I’m sure. I caught wind of a new addition to an old street which just so happened to be in one of my favourite towns, Carrickfergus.

West Street, if I’m honest, isn’t a street we have went down during our many visits to Carrick – and we’re there a lot! We always get off our train and head straight down through the North Gate, towards the castle. We spend our days at the amazing Pirate Marina Play park {or enjoying some soft play at World of Wonder}, eating at Brewers Fayre, pretending to be Crusaders in Carrickfergus castle or getting our toes sandy on the shore.

Since the Umbrellas went up in West Street, we’ve been in Carrickfergus twice and Umbrella street is always our first thing to see. It’s just such a beautiful sight and it really gives an old street a new lease on life.

Umbrella Street, Carrickfergus

They are just so incredibly pretty that I actually had to stop myself from photographing them. Or more like…my son had to physically drag me away – the shame of it all! And as he was pulling me away he was saying “Muuuum, you’re obsessed with pretty things”. I think it’s easy to see why though because, they are very pretty.

I said it over on my Instagram feed and I’ll say it here as well – I think every street needs a pretty feature like this. It just makes you smile and it can never be a bad thing adding a little colour to a regular street making it that little bit more special than before.

Have you visited Umbrella street recently? I’d love to hear what you think – or maybe you have an Umbrella street where you live!?

D xx

I have seen quite a few of these on my travels in the UK – Bath and London’s Borough Market away! They’re so pretty 🙂 x

These are gorgeous, I have seen them on social media before but I thought they were a feature in one place only…I didn’t realise they ‘toured’! They’re so pretty!

I didn’t even know things like this exist! I would be like you and want to take thousands of photos as it is very pretty and colourful. I wonder what it would be like in the rain.

Haven’t actually been to the Umbrella street but have seen this concept in lots of different places in the world. The Miracle Garden in Dubai had it when I visited few years ago and they’ve ever got these in Bath, UK.
