The most wonderful Easter holidays with my gang!

I don’t think I have ever been able to say this before and I hope by saying it that I’m not jinxing anything. But, our entire Easter holidays had minimal bickering from the kids. Minimal. This is unheard of and I’m not sure what has happened along the way but it’s so bloody wonderful! I’ve enjoyed every single day out with my gang and we’ve all laughed and had the best of times. It’s honestly been such an exhausting Easter break {because we had some fun days out}. But it’s honestly been one of the best.

We didn’t get up to as much as I was hoping – which I shared in my Easter Holidays recently, but man, we had some epic weather! The kids were off their screens and playing in the garden and coming in long after the sun had gone down. These are the days I live for. When the kids can be kids and will come inside after a day in the sunshine with grassy knees and sun-kissed cheeks. We lived off picnic dinners in the garden and ice-cream and we wouldn’t have it any other way. 

So, what did we get up to? 

We did the usual Easter Egg hunt on Easter Sunday, which I had to do a few little extra things for because Annabelle {my 6yr old} sees the Easter Bunny almost like a Santa figure. Is any of your children like that? We’ve never really made a huge deal out of the Easter bunny, so lord knows where she has got it from, but we’re rolling with it. So, on Easter ‘eve’, Annabelle made the Easter Bunny a pretty picture, wrote him a letter, left him a carrot and all she had in her wallet, which was 27p.

Just before the kids broke off for Easter, Annabelle passed her second Judo grading – as you can see she is proud as punch {as are we!}. The kids also took part in their schools Easter egg decorating competition – I think they did well, don’t you think?

We attended the surprise birthday of my Father in law, which was lots of fun. I even baked his cake! Word to the wise? Never work with edible fondant, it’s a nightmare! But overall, the cake came out pretty good. A little wonky, but pretty good nonetheless. 

During our Easter holidays, we went on two big days out. The first one was to one of our favourite places, Castlerock. We’ve always been so lucky with the weather when we visit Castlerock and this time was no different. 

We took a walk up to Downhill House to do an Easter egg hunt with Cadbury Ireland & the National Trust NI. It was lots of fun, even if the questions where a little tricky! 

Answering the riddle rhymes were quite tricky, as I mentioned before. Being a National Trust based Easter egg hunt, all of the answers were based on breeds of birds. Which is pretty cool. Better for you if you know anything about birds! I knew a few, but Google had to come to our rescue for the rest. 

The views from the Easter egg hunt were pretty amazing! If you’ve never visited Downhill or Mussenden Temple – I cannot recommend them enough! 

Annabelle was pretty chuffed to receive her prize for finishing the Easter egg hunt {Thank you Cadbury’s!} Now, it was off to the craft tent to make bird feeders and pretty floral pictures with the National Trust.

We always have such an amazing time in Castlerock. It’s exhausting, I won’t lie and the kids are always so quiet on the train home {which isn’t a bad thing!}.

The rest of our Easter holidays consisted of even more sunshine – we were spoilt! So having water fights were a must! Daily ice-creams were also happening and I can honestly say, we had a really fabulous 2-week break. 

Usually, the school holidays mean there will be endless bickering and sibling squabbles. But not this time. I’m not sure what has happened, but I would very much like it to continue! I hope your Easter holidays was a great one too and now we’re on the downhill to Summer!!
