Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice for the Nintendo 3DS, Review

Gaming is something of a passion of mine and I absolutely love having this amazing privilege to test out new games. In this post, I’m going to be sharing with you everything about Nintendos latest fast-action 2D platform game only for the 3DS systems: Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice.

This game, for me personally, has a real mix of retro and modern aspects to it. Maybe that’s just me feeling a tad nostalgic when I play this game. But I love the graphics and Sonics ability to harness the powers of fire & ice, allowing him to overcome certain obstacles is pretty fun. We’ve always seen Sonic spin, jump and go supersonic, so being able to see Sonic slide {and pretty awesomely may I add} over icy bridges, is also pretty cool.

In this game, you can join Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy and Sticks as they take-off on an epic journey to defeat Dr. Eggman and the all-new super villain, D-Fekt!

The aim of this game is….Sonics in trouble! Dr. Eggman discovered a powerful element known as Ragnium which he is using to create himself an army of super-fast robots! The catch for this super-fast bots is that they’re able to outrun the blue blur himself. Eeep! On top of the super-speedy robots being unleashed, Dr. Fekt {one of Dr. Eggmans Ragnium-robbing robots} has gone completely mental and is destroying the environment! So it’s up to, playing as Sonic and the gang to restore peace to the Island of Ragna Rock.

You can switch between characters who have their own unique traits and abilities, allowing you to complete the levels. For example, Tails ability to fly or Knuckles unique strength can all be useful qualities in this game.

Like lots of games lately, you can find lots of hidden secrets within the games levels and also mini games too. So keep an eye out! 😉

The one thing I love about the Nintendo 3DS systems is the ability to sync up with a friend allowing you to play together. Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice allows you to race a friend in the bot racing mode! I love a good racing mode, don’t you?

However, with all of that in mind, what do we think of the game? I personally love it as it gives a real retro sort of vibe and with the added abilities of power that you can harness, it gives this game a real identity of its own. We all think the game is super fun and we all have our own favorite characters to play.

We also enjoy the ‘think-fast’ aim to this game, as you need to be quick off the mark to activate fire to blast through ice blocks or ice to skate across bodies of water. You can also use a range of gadgets such as the hi-tech enerbeam to help you leap across chasms and not forgetting Sonics gravity-defying air dash to smash your way through obstacles in your way. The fast-paced aspect to this game makes it a lot of fun.

We also really enjoyed the massive two screen boss fights! We’ve never seen a battle or a fight on the 3DS that has taken up both screens before, so we thought that was pretty cool.

Sonic Boom: Fire and Ice gets a massive thumbs up from us, now, if the kids keep looking for me {we’re playing hide & seek} I can complete this next level. 😉
