Make your own Wookie Cookies for Star Wars Day

Make your own Wookie Cookies for Star Wars Day

It’s Star Wars day in a few weeks – which also happens to be my Husband’s birthday! And I was trying to think of something that would be cute to serve up with breakfast {or dinner} and ‘in theme’ so when I found these Wookie Cookies over on Pinterest and I just had to make them for myself!

They are the perfect treat for any Star Wars fan and even more perfect to enjoy on Star Wars Day. Which is May 4th – in case you didn’t know! May the 4th be with you? 4th – forceget it? *snort* I’m sorry.

Originally, I wasn’t going to add in a recipe for these because I thought you could make them with your favourite shortbread or gingerbread recipe. But then I thought, perhaps you didn’t know the nicest recipe to try, so I thought I’d add in a few for you because I am nice like that! So, you’ll find recipes for shortbread, gingerbread, and sugar cookies within this post. That way, you can make your favourite recipe and everyone is happy!

I chose to go with my classic shortbread recipe but I added a touch of cocoa to give my Wookies the colour they need to be all Wookie-like! So I guess I’m making chocolate Wookie cookies! Which makes me so happy!

Here is my fool-proof Shortbread recipe

125g/4oz softened butter
55g/2oz Caster sugar
180g/6oz Plain flour
2 Tsp of cocoa powder

Making your shortbread dough

Heat your oven to 180 degrees C, line a baking tray with parchment paper, and then beat together your butter and sugar until they are well combined.

Stir in your flour & cocoa powder and mix until you get your shortbread dough.

Sprinkle flour onto your surface and roll your shortbread dough to a 1cm thickness, then cut into shapes. For this Wookie Cookie recipe, I have used the gingerbread man cookie cutter.

Once each Wookie cookie is cut out, place them onto your baking tray and parchment paper. You can then take either a fork or a cocktail stick and make the little markings of the Wookies fur onto each cookie.

Once all of your Wookie Cookies are cut, you can place them into the fridge to chill for 20 mins before placing them in the oven. This helps them spread less whilst baking. However, if you don’t have the time, just pop them straight in. Mine didn’t get chilled as they barely spread.

Once baked, remove from the oven and allow to cool fully on a wire rack.

Adding your finishing touches to the Wookie Cookies

For the Wookie Cookies bandolier, you’ll need some cooking chocolate to melt and some white chocolate chips. All I did was melt the chocolate, and pipe it onto my Wookie Cookies. I then added my white chocolate chips and voila, my Wookie Cookies were complete!

I cannot get over how cute these guys are and they tasted GREAT! The kids have never tasted chocolate shortbread before and truth be told, neither had I before this recipe. They are the perfect way to help celebrate Star Wars day on May 4th! I know for sure, I’ll be asked to whip up another batch of these bad boys and I will be happy too.
