Imposter or Evil Empire! A SO SUS game review!

Imposter or Evil Empire! A SO SUS game review!

There is a game, that my family and I love! However, playing a game on a computer and in real life are two very different experiences. SO SUS Games have created a Play for real game called SO SUS and there is an Evil Empire to protect and an Imposter among you! But who is who!?

This game can be played at home or taken to your friends to play. Bring it out during a birthday party or just because and just have fun with it! My lot wanted to play it again and again and how could I so no! Mainly because I thought it was lots of fun too. I just wish, personally, we had more room to run around in! But we did use our whole lower floor of the house and our front garden so it was still super fun.

As you can imagine, there are rules to follow, tasks to complete, emergency meetings to call and suspected imposters to fling from the game! However, first things first…setting up SO SUS!

How to set up SO SUS

To kick off the game, you must select a player card and place them face down on a table. Each player will select a card, making sure nobody else sees your card! And then place it down onto the table.

Secondly…decide where your emergency meeting room will be. Put the batteries into your big red button and place it on the table. This is your official team meeting point for discussions on who seen who do what, to whom! Or perhaps they have suspicions of someone doing something to a team member! Who knows and that is part of the fun!

Tasks!

The next thing is to place your task cards around the house & garden! There are five types of tasks, such as words, numbers, physical, luck and skill. You randomly select 2 tasks from each category and place them in five separate places around your house and garden. All players are allowed to know their location, so there is no need to hide them!

This layout, with five tasks laid out, is for a smaller team playing. However, if you have a larger group of 7+ players, use 3 or even 4 tasks of each type.

As you already know, if you are familiar with the game, the imposter cannot do tasks. However, pretending is very much required if you are to ‘blend in’ as one of the Empire. Once any task is complete, you bring it back to the meeting table, the imposter cannot do this.

Each member of the Evil empire {not the imposter} can only do one task from each category. These are really fun and there are younger kid-friendly options in the pile too! A member of the Evil Empire much complete two tasks from each category {without getting killed} to win!

Emergency Meetings!

As well as completing 2 tasks from each category, there is a second way to win this game! And that is to correctly vote out the Imposter during an emergency meeting. Each player can only call 1 emergency meeting per round.

To call that all-important emergency meeting, you know the drill! Push that buzzer on your meeting table and all players must immediately make their way to the meeting place. From this point, you have 1 minute to each give their reasons for wanting to vote someone out.

After those very important 60 seconds, each player gets a free vote by pointing dramatically at the player they are accusing. Players can also skip if they are unsure of who the imposter truly is! If there is a tie in votes, no one is eliminated. If the correct person i.e. the imposter is voted out, then they declare who they were and the game ends. Thus victory goes to the Evil Empire! The Imposter flung from the game goes to the graveyard and remains silent as another game restarts.

Are you the Imposter?

I knew straight away when my gang got the imposter card because they could not contain their joy. So my main piece of advice? Don’t look like the cat who got the cream when you see Imposter on your chosen card.

Stay calm and place your card back down on the table. As the imposter, your main objective is to save the minds of the people and eliminate the Evil Empire one by one. Of course, do not get caught!

To eliminate a member of the Evil Empire, you need to place your hand on their shoulder. The player who has been eliminated falls slowly and quietly to the floor and must remain super quiet. If the eliminated player gets found by another member of the evil empire then they are allowed to get up and head to the graveyard.

The imposter can only eliminate another player once the eliminated player has been found or after 30 seconds. Counting like: 1 imposter, 2 imposter and so on! Once there is one remaining evil empire member, then the imposter wins the game!

Sabotage & Cheating!

The imposter is allowed to sabotage, heck, that’s part of the fun of being the Imposter, right? You are allowed to collect task cards from the central board and replace it back into the correct task location. If the sabotage is successful then the evil empire players must do the tasks again. Mwahahaha! The Imposter can also close all doors and switch off the lights during your game.

Cheating is not cool. Do not do it. It’s as simple as that!

Boardgame!?

There is a board game with this SO SUS Play for Real game and I have to be honest, it was too complicated for us. Plus, we just loved playing out our roles of an imposter or the evil empire. Having to move players forward or backwards on the board just seemed pointless to us, so we did not do that part of the game.

We just put on our coloured t-shirts, put on our masks, played out our roles and had an absolute blast!

So, you get the gist of the game, right? If not, then you have been living underneath a rock! We absolutely love playing this game at home and it’s a lot of fun watching the kids being able to recreate one of their favourite games, in person.

If you have any Among Us fans, this game is for you! We have had a blast playing this game over and over during the last few weeks. And I cannot see the love for it dying out anytime soon. Which makes for a great game in my opinion. Do check it out, show it some support and yeah, have fun!

Do you have an Among Us fan at home?
