How to throw your own Pumpkin Carving party!

Halloween is the ultimate time of the year in our house. I’ve said it before {and I’ll say it again!} we love Halloween more than Christmas! A strong statement, I know, but it’s true and if you’re a lover of the spooky season {like us} then you will totally get it.

Last year we threw a pretty fun Halloween party for my kids, their friends and family. It was loads of fun and it was pretty darn successful too if I don’t say so myself. The house was covered in body parts and cobwebs. Animal skeletons and giant spiders, not forgetting freshly carved pumpkins all lit up and looking spooky.

How to throw a pumpkin carving party!

Instead of having a Halloween party this year I thought we could do something a little different – but still have all the fun.

We’re going to throw our own Pumpkin carving Party! I don’t know how I never thought of doing this before, but once I heard of the idea I knew it had to happen.

So, I thought I would put together a post, sharing my ideas and maybe you can throw your own pumpkin carving party, too.

First things first, decorating your carving room!

More importantly, {for me and for whoever else has one} redecorating our ‘over the table’ branch. Which, if I’m completely honest, I’ve had up since I decorated it for Easter and just…never took it down. I love it so much!

But to decorate it for Halloween I just bought some autumn leaves from Amazon and found some small plastic pumpkins on eBay.

Get yourself some fairy lights for good measure and over the table Halloween branch is good to go! Now, of course, this is how I decorated mine – you can decorate yours however you like.

There is no right or wrong way when it comes to over the table branches. Just be warned, once it’s up you’ll never want to take it down! You’ll also find yourself redecorating it for all kinds of occasions. Like me!

Next up is setting the table!

I bought a roll of brown parcel paper and laid it over my table – stay with me for this one! Then I drew out a few cute Halloween related words and drew little areas where things would be placed.

I purchased some cheap and cheerful Halloween trick or treat cauldrons from my local Home Bargains and these were perfect to label with ‘Pumpkin Guts’. I also picked up several pumpkin carving kits in my local Poundland, too.

Now, you can either ask your guests to bring their own pumpkins or buy them in yourself. We’re going to have quite a few of us at the pumpkin carving party – so it is less expensive {for you} to ask your guests to bring their own pumpkin. 

Drinks & Snacks

You cannot have a party without drinks and snacks! So you can imagine my excitement when I managed to find a little wicker style basket to put in some drinks – labelled with these Halloween bottle labels that I found! Your welcome! 

As for snacks – you can make up a batch of deliciously spooky Oreo Witch Hats, or for a hot food option, some Meatball Mummies with a mildly spicy dipping sauce would be fun. As for a healthy option, you can never go wrong with some adorably cute clementine pumpkins.

Have a contest!

If there is one thing I am for sure about my teenage daughter and her friends, is that they’re all competitive! So I thought it would be fun to add a little spice to their Pumpkin carving party! What better way to do that, than turn it into a contest! There can be categories, such as scariest pumpkin, funniest pumpkin or most creative pumpkin design.

It’s something that will get them all thinking and I’m quite excited to see the results, actually! Make sure to follow me on Instagram because I will be sharing them! 

Halloween party game ideas!

No party is an actual party without a few games, right? So I thought it would be fun to play games like Pin the skeleton in the grave – bit dark that one, I know! But it is Halloween after all! Or, you could make it into a “Place the witch on her broom” or even place the funny face on the pumpkin!

You can get yourself some toilet rolls and play “Wrap the Mummy” – whoever does it in the quickest time, wins. Super simple and guaranteed to get a bunch of laughs.

Or, if your bunch are into their spooks and thrills, they can play hide and seek by torchlight. This game is a firm favourite in our house and screams are a guarantee {always followed by laughter!}.

You can even print off these cute Halloween Word Scramble free printable that I have made to sprinkle onto your party table. The kids will find it fun trying to crack the scrambled words.
