Falling in love with books, with Books2Door UK

My little girl, the baby of the family has {within the last year} come with reading books. Her knowledge of phonics & having fun books to read has blossomed her love of books. Naturally, I {as her Mama} could not be happier. 

You may know this already {or not and that’s OK} but Annabelle has fought with a severe speech delay in her short life. She was diagnosed with a severe tongue-tie 1-month before she turned 3 yrs old. Ever since that diagnosis, it’s been an uphill battle. But the distance she has come and the determination she has shown is nothing short of inspiring. 

Around this time last year, her reading wasn’t being encouraged at school. Her teacher wasn’t giving her the chance to show how well she could read. It was frustrating! After endless chats with the teacher – nothing was done and we took things into our own hands. We read to Annabelle every night at home anyway, but we upped her reading time during the day and within a few shorts weeks we were already seeing a huge difference. 

The books that we used to help her with this was the first review we did with Books2DoorUK, which was the Songbird Phonics collection. A highly recommended selection of books for any child learning how to read. Fast forward one year and I approached her new Teacher with the same problem. 

Thankfully this Teacher listened and within one week Annabelle was rising up the reading groups within her class. A few months on and she is one away from the top reading group. I cannot tell you how incredibly proud {and relieved} this makes me. Finally having someone listen makes all the difference.

LadyBird Read-it-yourself book collection

For this collaboration, Books2DoorUK kindly sent out more books for Annabelle to enjoy and review. She chose the Ladybird ‘Read-it yourself’ collection which contains 50 books for ages 5-7 yrs. There are so many fun stories to enjoy, from Topsy & Tim, Fairy Friends, Sam & the Robots and even timeless classics such as Hansel and Gretel.

At the moment, with Annabelle recently turning 7, she is now on the blue and purple books. Which delights me no end! She is enjoying each and every story and loves to log them into her reading journal booklet that I made last year. 

This Ladybird Read-it-yourself book collection is my opinion is everything beginner readers need in their life. Starting from the red books and working their way up gives them a steady incline to learning how to read and to read well. Throughout the stages of books, the font will gradually get a little smaller, there will be more pages in the books and the words will get steadily trickier. 

I love this style of books for my daughter because I just think they give such a gentle and gradual progression to increase her reading capabilities without pressure. Just good fun and going through the motions of falling in love with books and the stories across their pages. 

Isadora Moon Book collection

The second set of books that Annabelle chose was the Isadora Moon 7-book collection. This collection is aimed at children aged 5-7 yrs and written by Harriet Muncaster. 

This set of books from the Isadora Moon collection are mini novels. A style of book Annabelle has never read before. So I was a little nervous to see how she would do when reading them. However, it’s been so nice finding her snuggled up on her bedroom chair, with one of the books in her hand. 

They aren’t as complicated as I thought and it’s nice to see her enjoying a book that still challenges her. Annabelle also requested a cute bookmark for her books – which I obviously thought was adorable! I found her the perfect Dr Suess one that she loves.
