Car seat safety with the mifold ‘Grab & Go’

We are non-drivers, so whenever we take taxi rides it always makes me a little nervous – mainly because having to lug around a car seat while doing my shopping with the children isn’t exactly ideal! However, being driven in any family members cars, Annabelle always has a car seat of her own which is incredibly helpful. However, sometimes, like when we take taxi rides, having them available just isn’t possible.  So, when Mifold got in touch, asking us to review their Grab & Go car restraint, it was an easy yes from me. 

The first thing that impressed me about the mifold Grab & Go car restraint was how compact it was. I did have a moment of wonder at how this could be safe for my child to use. But stay with me, as you’ll be as impressed as I was & am. Firstly, the mifold grab & go is the most advanced, compact & portable child restraint in the world. Which is quite the statement! They are now available right here in the UK and they really are an excellent solution when travelling in a car when a car seat just isn’t available i.e. like us with our taxi journeys! 

A standard car or booster seat aims to raise the child up but the mifold does the exact opposite. It lowers the seat beat down to suit the height of your child. It doesn’t get any simpler than that and it’s quite genius if you think about it.

There are 3 belt guides on the mifold that adjusts both the lap belt & shoulder strap to fit your child. It also places the seat belt correctly over the hip bones and shoulder to provide the correct amount of restraint in case of impact. The back strap is placed behind your child & clips onto the seat belt & you can adjust to suit the height of your child. 

At first, I thought it looked a little complicated, but after watching the mifold video of how to fit the booster seat – it really is incredibly simple. It takes less than a minute to get your child all buckled in and your child, when old enough can even do it themselves – it’s that easy! 

For us, as non-drivers, this is the perfect travelling companion. It will definitely give me a real sense of comfort knowing that my daughter is safe while driving in any car. My eldest daughter no longer needs a booster seat of any kind, but my son actually does – so I will be investing in a second mifold for him. You can also fit three of these comfortably and effectively in the back of your car. 

Annabelle absolutely loves using her mifold and it’s so compact, that if she’s popping out with her Grandparents, can pop it into her backpack. Which makes her feel ‘very’ grown up. 

We used this on a few trips over the summer holidays and I honestly could not have been happier with it. It took moments to set up and have Annabelle all buckled in. She loved feeling like a ‘super big girl’ too because she didn’t feel restricted in any way and best of all, she was comfortable & felt safe. 

The mifold Grab & Go is, in my opinion, fantastic. I wouldn’t say it would be an everyday car seat solution, but it is great for travelling those short distances or when car seats just aren’t available. Just the idea of being able to have this in my bag – due to being 10x smaller than a regular booster seat – whenever we may need it gives me so much comfort & reassurance.
