AD | Getting the Lockdown Look with Pronto Direct

Lockdown has been the bane of our year, right? We have all been through them, most of us more than once and yet here we are again! It sucks. I get it. But we just have to roll with the punches and hope this all just levels itself out, am I right? I have collaborated with the lovely team from Pronto Direct and I was challenged to give a Lockdown Look to one of their workwear hoodies. Now, I love a good hoody and these honestly do feel lovely. There is a good range of colours to choose from and it’s the perfect item of clothing when layering up to go for your daily walk, or going out to work.

I went for one of their Polycotton Hooded sweatshirts in Navy {I’m partial to the darker colours} from their workwear clothing section. When choosing my hooded sweatshirt, I noticed that Pronto Direct offer money off the more items you buy. Super handy for businesses when buying uniform for their employees. Or, if you’re a parent like myself and need to buy sweatshirts for your kids and have a squad of them like myself!

So, my challenge was to ‘go crazy’ on my sweatshirt to gain the Lockdown look but I have to be honest, what even is a lockdown look? To me that is just slumming it indoors, being safe {and smart} and just feeling relaxed. A hooded sweatshirt emanates relaxation for me, don’t you agree?

And I didn’t want to go too crazy with it so I couldn’t wear it outdoors. That’s when I decided to try a technique that I’ve never attempted before and to give it a subtle nod to us nerds in the process. My plan to have a go at acid washing the hoody and add a little transfer decal as well.

How to Acid Wash your Hooded Sweatshirt

I have never acid-washed anything before but to my understanding, it is an easy enough craft to do. All you need is some water, bleach, protective gear and a well-ventilated area.

Step One – Put on your gloves and goggles. Get yourself a spray bottle and fill it up with 50% water & 50% bleach.

Step Two – Lay out your chosen item of clothing i.e t-shirt, hooded sweatshirt etc into a sink or on your garden path. Just be careful there is nothing in a range that can become damaged by stray bleach sprays.

Step Three – Spray your clothing. You can try to do a design if you are feeling artistic. You can also concentrate on areas you wish to be lighter than others and so on. Or, if you are looking to gain the acid wash look, like me, you can spray in a random pattern to achieve that grungy acid-washed look.

Step Four – Leave for 10 minutes for the bleach to soak into the material. You can choose to spray your top again after the 10mins, to give your top some dimension.

Step Five – It’s now time to rinse your top out thoroughly and to wash it.

As for the little transfer paper decal, I chose to go with a Dungeons and Dragons design. I am a long-time player of the fantasy role-playing game and out of all the hoodies I have? Not one of them is for Dungeons and Dragons. So, I figured it was a good idea to design one. It is just a simple free vector that I found online, printed it onto transfer paper and voila. That image with the acid wash? I have to say, looks pretty cool! So much so that my kids are now asking to make them their own hoodie, too!

I must mention, not just the kids are asking, as the Husband is after one as well! So I had best get designing! But this hoodie was perfect for this DIY acid wash project. I had no idea that the navy would go into a maroon, but I am loving it. The hoody itself is really soft, it washes very well and it even has a sneaky pocket inside the main pocket {for change & notes etc}. So that is a cool feature.
