A simple no-sew bottom bunk bed tent

Both of my daughters share a bedroom, so you can imagine the chaos. Having a 5year old & a 12year old share a bedroom means there is never a dull moment. Sometimes they get on, and sometimes…not so much. Which is the daily story of siblings – I’m sure you’ll agree.

Aside from getting on {or not!} you’ll find an array of clothes over the floor, posters lining the walls & a ridiculousย amount of teddy bears at the foot of their beds. Not to mention a constant stack of doodles over Ellie’s Homework nook – that kid never stops doodling! Don’t get me wrong, I love that she is forever sketching, it’s just the papers everywhere that drive me crazy.ย

However, when I consider their age gap – one in Primary school & one in High school – both girls have very different requirements. Especially when it comes to bedtime. We have a domino bedtime in our house. Annabelle goes to bed first, followed by Jacob, then Ellie goes to bed last. But, since her & her sister share a bedroom, that proved to be difficult. Mainly because, Ellie loves to chill out with Netflix in the evenings – who can blame her!

So I set out to try and make it possible for Annabelle to go to bed {at her bedtime} and for Ellie to still be able to chill out in her own bedroom in the evenings.ย

I wanted to make this bunk bed tent for Ellie as simply & as cheaply as possible – we’re saving up for our Summer holiday to Somerset in July! Which I managed to pull off because it cost me a grand total of ยฃ18 to make.ย

What I used to make the Bunkbed tent;

  • White Voile panels {I bought two packets in the 2 for ยฃ15 deal at Argos}
  • 2 packets of Net curtain/Voile wire – I picked this up from my local Poundland
  • A packet of white plastic hooks – I also picked these up from Poundland

I had thought about using actual curtains for this project, but I thought it would get too warm when it was all closed up – which didn’t appeal to me. A hot box was not what I wanted my daughter to be sleeping in. So using the voile panels actually made it all come together nicely. It still gives her the feeling of privacy while being nice & airy to sleep/chill-out in.ย

Speaking of getting too warm when you sleep, have you looked into sleep technology? I came across NerdSleep.com and it looks amazing. It is the latest in sleep and bedroom technology with specified cooling systems, weighted blankets, sleep tracking and so much more. Check them out!

This no-sewย bottom bunk bed tent was so simple to make. Here are a few photos toย show you how I did it;ย

The net curtain/voile wire was so simple to put into place.

I used self-adhesive plastic hooks to keep the curtain wire from drooping.

I trimmed the bottom of the voile panels to be at floor lengthย

I’m so pleased that I managed to give my almost teen daughter a little bit of privacy in a very busy girls bedroom. Her next request is a velcro wall panel for her iPad – for her to watch when her little sister is dominating the bedroom TV. Which is 90% of the time! So I may share that once it’s been done {basically when I find the time!} and if you guys want to see that sort of thing.

Let me know in the comments below what you think of the bed tent – this is my first project like this and I think I’ve made a rod for my own back because now my two younger children want bed tents too! Problem being, one is in a mid sleeper & the other is on the top bunk. That should be fun to try & pull off!ย

  • For ยฃ18 I think that is a proper bargain and I like how you don’t even need to sew your bunk bed tent either. Plus I spotted the Rick and Morty posters, I am a fan!

    • Haha, Rock & Morty are great aren’t they!? My daughter LOVES that show! And for ยฃ18 it is a huge bargain, I think. It was great how simple it was to make, as well.

  • Oh this is such a fab idea, so cheap to do too! I always ALWAYS wanted my bed to be sort of like a den when I was younger!

  • What a fabulous idea. It looks brilliant and it sounds very simple to make, even for someone who isn’t crafty like me. Thanks for sharing it.

  • That’s a great idea for prettying up the bottom bunk. We’ve got something similar from IKEA which gives a sort of 4 poster effect for a tenner. Can’t imagine what chaos would ensue if Caitlin and Ieuan shared a room!

  • That looks fab, luckily my friend is handy with a sewing machine and made me a gorgeous one for my daughter’s bed

  • That is an impressive creation! I hope neither of them have pulled it down in a fit of sibling anger yet?

  • What a super idea for siblings sharing a room! Our youngest two have shared a room for the last 9 years, but now that my eldest has moved out they’ve got separate rooms. They love it. ๐Ÿ™‚
