A little update of our 7th week of lockdown

A little update of our 7th week of lockdown

Hello, week seven! Gosh, this stage in the lockdown arrived quickly, didn’t it? I feel as though I only heard Boris’s announcement that we were heading into the lockdown phase just yesterday. But no, it was seven weeks ago, which is insane. That is almost two months spent in lockdown. That’s a mad thought, isn’t it? How are you & yours keeping as we venture into week seven? We’re doing good, I suppose. No other way to approach it really. The kids seem to have forgotten about heading out with friends or maybe they’ve just accepted this is how things are going to be for a while and processing that in their own time. As a family, we are getting on better than ever, which is strange. Usually, we’d be having daily shouting matches and the siblings would be at each other’s throats. Now, don’t get me wrong this still happens! Hello big family! However, it’s not happening half as much and we all seem to be a lot closer than before this lockdown business began. Can you relate to that?

Getting in our daily exercise

A few weeks ago, I shared a post called “When lockdown started to feel normal” and that still resonates. Everything how it stands now feels normal and even though thinking that it feels normal, it still feels a little weird at the same time. When we venture out for our daily walks, we are seeing more and more people whenever we go. Our local woodland would normally be very quiet, but now? It’s heaving with families going for their daily walk. We mixed things up and for a few days walked down to the shore as we’re very lucky to live by the beach. However, with the good weather, there was an abundance of families and cyclists down there too. Which makes our daily exercise feel a lot less safe than before. So we’ve decided to keep to our little front garden for the foreseeable. Or until the cabin fever gets too much!

Aside from our daily walks, we’ve just been doing what everyone else is doing. Getting our homeschool tasks completed, having family time and trying to sort out the house. Which seems to be everyone’s thing at the moment! We’re not doing any form of renovation or upcycle, we’re just trying to declutter and getting our busy home into some sort of order.

We celebrated our first lockdown birthday!

It was the Husband’s birthday on Star Wars Day, I know, what a day to be born on, right? He loves it and even though it was the birthday he hoped for, he still really enjoyed his day. He got lots of lovely gifts from us all, we baked him a cake and ate all day long! All of his favourite foods – so he was a happy man! And to end the night on a high, I arranged for a bunch of his friends to come online for a Halo evening – let’s just say he laughed well into the early hours and had quite the hangover the next day! So all in all, he had a great day!

Boris Johnson’s latest announcement

Here in Northern Ireland, we’re in lockdown for at least the next three weeks. This will be reviewed again on May 28th. An extended lockdown for us was not only what I expected but also something I hoped for. I’m not exactly sure what Boris Johnson was talking about in his recent broadcast – did you understand it? I don’t think anybody did as not a word of it made a lick of sense!

Schools reopening?

As for when the schools will all be reopening? It makes no difference to me as my gang will not be going back into school until at least September. I think what they are asking for {and expecting} is impossible. How can a school of 300+ children social distance? How can a class of 25-30 children sit 2m apart? It’s just not possible! And we’re not even taking into account lunchtime and break time. What are your thoughts on your child going back to school before the summer break?

I’ve taken up a new hobby

For years, my Dad has wanted to know more information about his Grandparents. His Dads, Dad in particular as he fought in the Second World War and that’s all we really knew. However, over V.E Day, Ancestry.com launched a few days to allow you to search up your military ancestors. So I did just that and let me tell you, I fell down one mighty rabbit hole! I have to be completely honest though, Ancestry didn’t provide me with anything more than my Great Grandfathers resting place. So I ventured over to FindmyPast with NIFamilyBlogLife’s advice and the information we managed to find was unbelievable. Not as much as you’d think, but enough to get more of a picture about who he was back then. Our next port of call is to put in an application to the Ministry of Defence as they still hold 90% of the WWII records.

Arts and crafts

I’ve also started crocheting again! Lockdown life, am I right? I think there are a lot of us getting our craft on! But I finally finished an afghan blanket that I started when I was expecting Annabelle. So we’re going back seven years! Ellie is thrilled that I finished it and now all I need for it is a little “Made by Mum” label to sew on. Now? Annabelle is requesting her own blanket, so I have made a start on that. I did, however, forget how much of an expensive hobby crocheting can be! But I love it and it’s something to keep my mind focused on something productive.

Just making the best out of a crazy situation

Lately, homeschool has been a lot more slack. So much so it’s giving me a nervous tick. So I’m reining that back in and trying to stay on top of everything. I have had zero inspiration for my little blog, other than baking! So you can expect a few recipes coming your way very soon. As well as the baked goods and constant eating, I feel guilty for not exercising as much as we used too! So I am going to try and restart doing #PEwithJoe with the kids. We loved it in the beginning, but then everything felt too much, we were all a little overwhelmed with everything going on that we turned away from it. But I’m going to try and reignite our love of exercising throughout our day.

Other than that, nothing much has changed. The kids are all doing OK, the Husband and I are OK … we’re good. This week I am going to try and get the kids cooking a few things {anything to get them off their screens!} and hopefully, that will give me more inspiration to share things on my blog with you guys! For now, though, I hope wherever you are, reading this, that you are safe and well!
