5 Helpful Tips to Stay Organised for the Year Ahead

Last year {and the year before that, that we shall not mention} was a walking shit-show. Would you agree? Of course, you would! And obviously, we want this year to be so not like the last two, so I am aiming to do a few things. The main one being, to be more organised and not just with appointments etc. But with everything! And I feel as though the rest of us need more organisation in our lives too, right? Throughout this post, the first one of the year might I had {queue klaxons and trumpets!} I am going to share a few handy tips to hopefully help you get organised too!

Handy tips to stay organised this year!

Our life, with two full-time working parents, school-aged children, social engagements and several other things that pain me to list. You get the gist that our life is crazy. Just like everyone else! But as crazy as life is, I am convinced we are doing something wrong and we can make things easier on ourselves. Or at the very least, that’s the hope! And I know that I am not alone in thinking that. Because when I am scrolling through social platforms such as Instagram {for example} there are people who make everything look…easy!

And I know that we only see a fraction of peoples lives online and that’s cool, however, shouldn’t it at least be relatable? Maybe I am looking at it wrong because not everyone’s homes or situations are the same. Ours is a family of 7 with 5 of us living together in a 3 bedroom home. And things are cramped, crazy & mostly…stressful. Whether that is due to the lack of homes for things or space to calm our minds. So, with those in mind, these are my key reasons to aim to get more organised this year, with every aspect of our life.

Write Things Down

I am, by nature, a forgetful person. Making lists are a requirement of mine to stay in the loop with everything and nothing is better than ticking those off. I recently reviewed a To-Do List Style Poster from Desenio that I am obsessed with and it really comes in handy for everyone to stay connected with the week’s plans and appointments.

Give Everything a Home

This is a current {and very slow process} of mine at the moment. We are doing regular clearouts of things that are not being worn, played with, read, or even touched with the last 6mths. Everything from cables {that pile up without you realising}, teddy bears, clothes, books, art supplies and even furniture. And therefore making sure whatever is left, has a home. And teaching everyone else in the house to actually put things back where they found them and not leaving them on the stairs for me to deal with.

So, giving everything in this house a home, in my book, is a vital component to getting organised.

Keep Only What you Need

I love this one and as well as the regular declutter sessions, this is another goal of ours. My girl’s bedroom, for example, is very cluttered! And no doubt has many, many things in it that the girls do not need, want or have even held in a long time. So you can be assured that even though {as recently as 2 weeks ago} 4 bags of unwanted items were thrown out and that will be repeated very soon. Keep Only What You Need. I love that statement.

Make Deadlines & stick to them!

I am forever making deadlines and never getting around to sticking to them. You can imagine that not completing those deadlines just adds to the stress, right? So, I have learned to give myself weekly or monthly deadlines. This could be to clear and declutter a corner in the loft or to repaint the bathroom that has needed doing for months! Either way, giving ourselves weekly/monthly goals and deadlines, seem a lot more doable {in our minds} than writing out an adventurous and overwhelming to-do list. Especially for those bigger jobs around the house that need to be done.

Have…less…stuff!

This is an extremely simple 3 worded piece of advice. Have…less…stuff. It is so painfully simple yet it is something that almost feels impossible with 5 of us living in a house. Especially when the majority of them are collectors of some kind or another. However, combining this with our aims to declutter, keeping only what we need and everything having a home, I am hoping this will be our reality at some point. My top goal in life is to live like a minimalist. Whether that is possible as a large family, who knows! But I am going to try!

I loved creating this printable. So much so that I have created 10 different versions to choose from. A very simplistic printable but packs a punch because that quote resonates all the bells with me. I hope you like them. If you do use any of them, please tag me on my Super Busy Mum channel, as I love to see people using my printables.
