10 Things I Love About Autumn

10 Things I Love About Autumn

Autumn. The season of the year that gifts us with the most glorious colours and a hint of rain in the air. It’s without a doubt, my favourite season of the year. It’s got the last bits of the heat of summer with a touch of freshness in the air. Letting us know that winter isn’t far behind. The trees look beautiful, we can go conker hunting and hot chocolates are more acceptable to have in Autumn than Summer! I for one am a fan! What about you? Throughout this post I am going to share with you, the 10 things I love about Autumn.

10 things I love about Autumn

Crisp Mornings & Chilly Evenings

Call me crazy, but I love feeling that fresh crisp morning air. Do you know the one that lets you see your breath? It’s pretty special and myself and my youngest daughter always pretend to be choo-choo trains on the school run. Along with the fresh mornings, I do love the early dark evenings. It allows me to turn on the fairy lights, lit the candles and get cosy with the kids. It’s the best part of the day in my opinion.

Thick socks & cosy jumpers

My jumpers always get put away once Spring comes along, and they don’t see the light of day until Autumn arrives. They are the cosiest items of clothing to get into after a busy day at work, or just for the school run. A lot of my big chunky knits are turtle neck style jumpers or cardigans. It depends on my mood! But they just make me sigh with joy when I put them on. Team the chunky knitted jumper up with a thick pair of socks? And you are on to a class A-team!

Crackling Fires

Now, OK, I have a confession. We don’t have a fireplace. And as much as that sucks! The next best thing we can have, that resembles a roaring crackling fire, and gives off a placebo effect of heat? Fireplace for your Home on Netflix. It is a godsend and it is one of my favourite things to put on when I am tidying the house during the day, or even settling down with a good book in the evening.

Vibrant & Crunchy leaves

I am a grown-ass woman. But that doesn’t stop me from walking through a pile of leaves. Kicking them up even! It is the child in me that honestly cannot get enough of it. You can even collect up a bag of your favourites for the kids at home to do some Autumn crafts with too!

Collecting Conkers

This is one of our favourite Autumnal activities to do with the kids. We usually, always go to the Botanic Gardens in Belfast because it has the biggest oak tree I have ever seen! And the conkers that come from it, you need a bag to bring them home. A bonus fact about collecting conkers? Pop them in places around the home to ward off spiders. It works, trust me! I cannot wait to de-spider our home again this season.

Not having to mow the lawn!

Ok, I thought collecting conkers was my favourite thing about Autumn, but this might actually top it! I absolutely hate having to tend to the garden. My Husband cannot do it due to hayfever, so it falls to me. But man, it is hard work and I cannot think of anything worse. So, when Autumn comes around, the garden slows down its growth rate and I can do one final cut and trim until Spring!

The clocks go back!

This means one thing…an extra hour in bed! And that is something that I am 100% here for! I am one busy Mama, like us all, am I right? So having that extra hour in bed will be so, so welcomed.

Hot Chocolate

During the colder months of the year, I will always make a little hot chocolate station in the kitchen. With jars of mini marshmallows, flakes, chocolate chips, cocoa powder and more. I even like to have a little jar of homemade hot chocolate bombs. These are a huge hit in my house and could be in yours, too! So easy to make!

New TV shows!

Whether it be The Great British Bake Off or the new season of Greys Anatomy! It’s almost like the dark, cold nights knows we don’t have anything better to do than binge-watch a new TV show! And they’d be right!

Rain

An unpopular opinion to some, no doubt. But I do love snuggling up on the sofa, a blanket over our laps, hot chocolates warming our hands and the rain beating down on the window. It is one of the best atmospheres in my opinion.

And there you go, my 10 favourite things about Autumn. Now, in the comments below, I want to know what your favourite things about Autumn are? Halloween is too easy, so we all know everyone loves Halloween! But, for real? What’s your favourite thing about this season?
