Shopping for Christmas with Smyths Toys

Coming up to the most festive time of the year, my kids are getting ready to write those all important wish lists. And what’s just as exciting as writing out that wish list? You got it – going through the toy catalogues! My kids have loved flicking through the new 300 page Smyths Toys catalogue and the “Oh WOW!” remarks & the squeals of “Look at that one!” should make my bank account weep, but right now it makes me smile. Watching them get so excited is just so lovely – don’t you think? Plus, who doesn’t love toy shopping!? Even as an adult I quite enjoy it.

When I was little my Brother and I would turn page after page, and we would naughtily tear out the toys we would be asking for and stick them onto paper making it into a magnificent collage. My idea, not his. He was younger than me, so you know, he did as he was told!

As children, we never got everything we asked for and even though I’ve never quite got over never getting my Teddy Ruxpin or my Ghostbusters Proton pack – like my Brother & I – my own children won’t get everything they’re asking for either. There are only so many toys a child needs but Smyths really do have the most insane range and they have absolutely everything a child could ever hope for.

I visited my local Smyths Toys superstore over the weekend {without the kids as I was shopping for you know, Christmas!} with a collection of vouchers that I was very kindly gifted. The new catalogue gave me so much inspiration that I went in knowing exactly what my children would love to open on that very special morning.

I know if I had of brought my children there with me, I most likely still would be there now because they change their minds like the wind! So it was a really lovely experience being able to browse the aisles at my own pace without being begged for this toy or that toy. Also, the store itself is so spacious and bright that it really is a lovely store to walk around.

I bought loads of amazing gifts for the children – ones for them individually as well as a few for them to share; board games and such. Would you like to see what I bought?

I had such a lovely afternoon shopping for the kids – as much as the kids loved going through the catalogue! Also, keep an eye out for a special reveal coming soon – Smyths Toys have a something exciting coming out so make sure to keep an eye out on my social media channels to find out more.

Do your kids love flicking through a toy catalogue? Have they started making their wish lists yet?

*This is a collaborative piece with Smyths – I was kindly gifted vouchers in return for this post. All thoughts, photos and opinions are my own.

They have such a great selection! I’ve started checking their catalogue too now for ideas – I think our basket will have My Little Pony mostly 🙂

We are not lucky enough to have a Smyths Toys near us but the arrival of the catalogue last week brought great joy. Then, when I was done, I let the kids look! 😉

Matthew got that Lightning McQueen Remote Control car for his birthday. He did go through the Smyths catalogue multiple times but he always gets stuck on the Transformers page. He has pretty much every Transformers his age group though. It’s going to be a hard one. I took the smallest to Smyths last weekend and we went through Smyths lane by lane. Turns out she either wants dolls or a dolls house.

Oh that photo of them browsing through the catalogue reminds me of when I was a kid marking all of the toys I wanted in the Argos & Index catalogues!

It looks like a fab shop! My little ones always have a read through the Smyths catalogue when it comes through the postbox! And I definitely remember going through the argos catalogue as a child and circling everything I wanted!

My youngest son is now 5, so loves looking through a catalogue. He’s also seen many an advert on a very annoying children’s TV channel. Bombardment of the must have toys! Arrrghhh. Smyths is fab though, a huge range to suit so many things. My teenage daughter and her boyfriend absolutely love the shop. I think they are worse than my little one.

I can’t wait to do this with Mia when she’s older but I’ve found toys can be so expensive! The Smyths store looks amazing and must have felt like Christmas had come early! x

I absolutely love Smyths Toys and can spend hours just looking at everything, even with no children but many nieces and nephews, I just love it x
