Happy ‘We got Hitched’ Day {One year on!}

I cannot believe I am writing this post, nor can I believe our wedding day took place one year ago, today. A whole year ago! I have so many amazing memories from our special day and I truly think we planned it true to ourselves. We did it our way and the day itself was so crazy and so amazing that it will always make us smile when we think about it.

We had a late afternoon wedding – our ceremony didn’t start until 4 pm because we had two girls who needed us first. My eldest daughter was starting High school & our youngest daughter was starting preschool. So the morning of our wedding was just us, rocking Parenthood, doing school runs and getting ready for our big day in between. Stuff tradition, right!?

We decided against doing flower bouquets – because, let’s face it, they’re just going to be sitting on a table wasting away. So for all my girls, I opted for wrist corsages instead. So I didn’t have those to sort out. I literally finished baking our wedding cake that morning {crazy, I know!} and after the school runs jumped in a taxi {with the cake – Eeek! While my husband was stolen by his Best man & Groomsmen!} to the venue to meet up with my cousin to sort out the candy bar, little touches, dress the tables etc.

In between collecting the girls, getting them dressed, having our hair done – it was time. Before I knew it I was walking into a packed room, full of family and friends with my darling man waiting for me at the front. It was the most insane feeling – we wrote our own vows, there was laughter, tears, and applause once those words were spoken; “I now pronounce you Man & Wife!”.

We pulled it off and honestly…planning a wedding is one of the most stressful things to plan and I think it helped us not having a seating plan, or floral arrangements, or speeches etc. It made the whole day amazingly relaxed, fun, no fuss or hassle. Sure, we had a few hiccups but I think those just added to the memory of the day. And now here we are, one year later.

Now we are going to enjoy a day of him going to work, kids going to school, the usual laundry & other household requirements etc and hopefully enjoy a lovely evening together tonight.

We do have one special thing to do though – on our wedding day we asked our guests to leave us a message on a little tag – to pop it into the jar which at the end of the night would be closed and opened only on our First Wedding Anniversary. So we are super excited to open that and read everyone’s lovely messages!

However for now, on this day & without sounding too cheesy {which is more my Husband’s department than my own} – Seven years together – One year married – Forever to go.
