Looking forward to rediscovering me {in Cyprus!}

In May of this year, I will be jetting off to Cyprus with some friends & we’re not taking our kids. I cannot tell you how excited this trip makes me because I have declared it to be a week where I find myself again. Being a Mum and a wife are amazing, don’t get me wrong – but always tending to others can get tiresome.

Over the years I have managed to lose a lot of myself. A lot of who I used to be. I wasn’t always a stressed headed angry dragon {as the kids call me!}. I used to be a fun, laid-back & a massively spontaneous adventurer who would get a loopy idea over breakfast and find herself on a plane by dinner time.

I used to be incredibly impulsive {and still am lots of different ways}. But instead of hopping on a mode of transportation following one of my crazy notions, my impulsivity is more along the lines of “I fancy painting the bedroom” & finding myself holding a paint roller by noon!

So where am I going and what do I plan on doing?

We are heading to Nissi Beach, Cyprus. A place I have never been but a place I have heard endless good things about. I cannot wait to stand on the water’s edge and have the cold Meditteranean sea wash over my little size fives. I am looking forward to lazing by the pool – or in it – whatever notion takes me, with a good book. It’s been far too long since I read a good book! I am looking forward to slow mornings and laughter fueled evenings. I want to see every nook and cranny that Nissi Beach can offer me and I cannot wait to photograph every inch of it.

I want to paraglide off the back of a speedboat before breakfast and then scuba dive after lunch. I would love to try paddleboarding and maybe even go on a sunset cruise. I want to be able to get ready at my own pace – not by the dictations of my children. I want to laze and bask in the peace and quiet of our secluded villa. For this week, these glorious seven days I will be putting me at the forefront. Something I have not done since I was 19 – the year my first son was born. I am 38 this Summer – so it’s been a while. Nineteen years this Autumn, in fact.

So all I can say now is, roll on May for our Cyprus adventure! Where memories will be made, cocktails will be consumed {along with amazing food} and doughnut pool floats will be lazed in! Not forgetting to hopefully find a little bit of me along the way.

D xx

    Oh wow – I’ve never been to Cyprus, but it sounds like such a beautiful country. Paragliding off the back of a boat would be so much fun 🙂

      I have never been either, and to paraglide would be TERRIFYING! But something I have on my 40 things to do before I’m forty! Eeek!

    And this post is EXACTLY the reason I decided to stick with cats and cheetahs. I like kids but the constant wanting and demands I see parents have to deal with these days……hell no!! Deborah,you have EARNED your week off and I hope you enjoy it to your heart’s desire!

      Cats & Cheetahs, huh? Haha! I love it. I love my children – more than life – but I think there just comes a time where you need that time to be YOU, because it’s a rarity when your the Captain of a busy ship! And thank you!

    Gosh, I totally get where you’re coming from. You must be very excited. Sounds like a wonderful plan, and I like the idea of paragliding before breakfast! I’m just toying with the idea of having a short break myself, it has been over twenty years for me. Gah! Makes you think.

      I am VERY excited – thank you! If you’re toying with the idea, just do it! You’ll regret it if you don’t! x

    The sunset cruise and being able to relax and rediscover you after having children sounds perfect. I hope you get to explore and do everything you want but more importantly enjoy the break away.

      Thank you so much, Kirsty! It can happen, can’t it? The losing ourselves, bit by bit. So I am looking forward to it! x

      It’s going to be amazing. I have only ever been away for a weekend without the kids, so a week has me a little nervous, truth be told!
