Keeping the kids busy this Summer with Sun-Pat

Keeping the kids busy & happy during the summer can be a daunting task. Out of nowhere they eat more, want to be outside more, go to fun & exciting places – I could go on. It can be a very expensive time of year, however, mixing things up throughout the Summer is a good plan. I set out a Summer bucket list before the kids finished for Summer holidays and so far {aside from the weather} we’ve had an amazing time.

We have a good balance of pricey days out, some cheaper days out and we even have a selection of fun free days planned too. My kids love being outdoors and I’m the type of parent to try & get out whatever the weather. Your skin’s waterproof after all! And according to research, 85% of children wish they spent more time outdoors over their summer break. Which is why we try to get out and about as much as possible.

Sun-Pat has a fabulous new competition offering families the chance to win one of 420 sports kits to help keep kids active this Summer. Each kit comes with a football, a skipping rope and a cricket set – all in a cool carrier bag. We were very kindly sent one of these kits to try out for ourselves and have been really enjoying it over the Summer so far.

If you need a little inspiration of what to do with the kids this summer, Sun-Pat has put together a great activity guide featuring 42 cheap and/or free things for the kids this Summer. You can download a copy of that here as well as entering a competition to win a sports kit for yourself.

Over this Summer some of our favourite activities to do have been body boarding, and hunting for Gruffalo’s, we’re hatching our own butterflies, had loads of picnics.

We have, in all honesty, had the best Summer so far – I’m quite sad that there are only a few weeks of it left. But I suppose the kids have to go back to school at some point, eh! But I think we will make the most of this last few weeks before that happens.

How is your Summer going so far? Do you have a good balance of paid & free activities to keep the kids happy this Summer? I’d love to hear what you’ve been up to!

Sounds like you’ve had a good summer so far despite the weather, ours has been pretty wet. We’re massive fans of peanut butter and can’t go wrong with Sun Pat, its a good healthy initiative!

The weather does sort of affect what you get up to doesn’t it! Sorry to hear yours has been so soggy!

Looks like you’ve had a great summer so far! I remember as a child my mum would have us outside for pretty much the whole 6 weeks! x

We have really had an amazing summer – aside from this second half of August – it’s been so dreary!! x

Wow that sounds amazing!! I haven’t done a huge amount to be honest. I have a 14 year old who doesn’t roll out of her pit until midday, an 11 year old who wants to stay in and a 16 week old bubba who is struggling with colic/reflux/tongue and lip tie. Not been the most fun summer but we have had lots of laughs.

I would not stand for that not getting out of bed until midday business! lol! Sorry to hear the little one is suffering from colic and everything else! Poor wee button! x

You sound like you’ve had an amazing summer – I’m a little bit jealous! I’m a teacher but have wasted lots of my summer. The Sun-Pat kit is a great idea! I’m a great believer in there’s no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing!

    • 23/08/2017 / 6:09 PM

We have, thanks! Boo to wasting the summer and you are totally right, there isn’t any such thing as bad weather – just bad clothing! 100%!

It’s always nice to have a mix of free activities and ones you pay for. Luckily we live right next to a country park, which is so nice to walk in – maybe with a picnic of peanut butter sandwiches!

    • 23/08/2017 / 11:07 PM

It really is and it’s kind on the pocket too! Oh my goodness, you’re so lucky living so close to a country park!

Thanks – I use a Nikon D3000 which is quite an old DSLR to be fair. I think I might have used my Samsung Galaxy S7 camera phone for these photos too! I can’t remember, lol. x

My summer has been a quiet one this year, been mostly writing and making small day trips to some local towns.
I think kids in the UK are a lot active outdoors then kids here in the States, seems like most kids here are into video games far too much.

    • 24/08/2017 / 10:35 AM

Kids here in the UK can be heavily into their video games here too! For example – right now? My three youngest are upstairs playing Minecraft together. I’ll allow it for now as I can get a little work done! 😉

I think my daughter would absolutely love these! It would be a great way to get her outside more next year 😀

    • 24/08/2017 / 10:35 AM

It’s a fun idea and with the carry bag – super easy to just pick up & take along with you.

  13. 24/08/2017 / 10:16 AM

If only it was sunny enough to be able to spend all the time outdoors playing sports x

  14. 24/08/2017 / 3:29 PM
