FurReal Co-Pilot Chewie from Hasbro | Review

Star Wars has been around, for as long as I can remember. With Star Wars A New Hope coming out way back in 1977 – George Lucas knew he was onto something BIG! Especially with the ever-so-successful sequels, The Empire Strikes Back {1980} and then my personal favourite, Return of the Jedi {1983}

There are so many great characters, from Yoda, Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia and let’s not forget my favourite duo Han Solo & Chewbacca. Chewbaccas language is pretty identifiable – you literally cannot mistake it! We were recently sent the FurReal Co-Pilot Chewie from Hasbro to review and the kids got so excited. Who doesn’t love Chewbacca!

We have never reviewed anything from the FurReal range before, so this is a first for us. When he was delivered, he looked very cool – Chewie comes with his own bandolier with satchel and instructions. He stands 40cm tall {16in} and felt robust and durable when I took him out of his packaging. Batteries are provided {ours have yet to run out} but when they do require replacing, you’ll need 4 x 1.5v AA batteries.

You can replace the batteries through his pack that is under the fur, secured with velcro – so batteries are easily replaced and he can also be turned on and off.

In typical Wookie fashion, Chewbacca is covered in fur – however, it feels like it’s been styled with gel. We have been brushing him, or more like – the five year old has been brushing him and it does come out, leaving Chewie with nice soft fur.

You can activate him by pressing his tummy and he also vocalises when you pat or stroke his head. Another feature I liked about this FurReal Chewie Co-Pilot is that his bark is worse than his bite! He is soft little teeth – in case any curious kids want to see if he ‘bites’ – so you don’t have to worry about that because Chewie is a big softie, through & through.

Chewie comes with 100+ sound & motion combinations, he responds in typical Wookie language and reacts whenever he is in motion. For example, he will roar if put upside down, if you shake him he’ll go all wookie on you {and also occasionally burp!}. Chewie will also sometimes raise his arms and has the cutest little facial expressions. You can even talk to him and he will reply in Wookie. When you lie him down, his eyes will close and he’ll go to sleep and even make little sleepy snoring sounds, too.

The sound is set to a particularly low setting – which is nice because you won’t {or shouldn’t} find him irritating {like some toys!} he is an amusing background noise, especially when he tries to talk back to you when you’re on the phone!

Chewie makes a great friend for any Star Wars fan and his fun facial expressions make him quite lovable. You can get your own FurReal Chewie Co-Pilot for £114 – which is the cheapest I have found online. But I will say this toy is only for those hardcore Star Wars fans – I think Chewie’s epic co-pilot skills would be wasted on anyone else.

Is he a bit expensive? Sure, I guess so – but for the interactive factor alongside his overall look & feel? If your budget can stretch, then you won’t be sorry.

 Disclosure: We were kindly sent the Chewie FurReal Co-pilot in return for an honest review. Any thoughts, photos or opinions are entirely my own
