Family Travel: Planning our First Family Holiday to Netherlands
This summer, our not so little family will be touching down in the Netherlands! We are total first timers to that part of the world and we are super excited. We are a family who hasn’t really travelled to many ‘different’ places together because, well, mainly because travelling as a larger family costs a lot of money! So we go where we can, with whatever offers we are lucky enough to find at the time. However, on this occasion, we are staying with the lovely guys at Eurocamp once again, more on that whenever we’re there, so stay tuned! And with just under 100 days to plan out and organise our trip, I had best get planning!
Planning our Netherlands Holiday as a family
I am an adventurer. An explorer at heart and I love to see as much of wherever I am, as I can. I mean, there is no point going to a whole new country and sitting by the poolside the entire time, right? However, I do have a promise to not drag my family to a different location every single day of our trip {as I have before!} so I will be picking our day trips carefully! We are heading to a part of Southern Holland known as Wassenaar.

Wassenaar Beach
I have read wonderful things about Wassenaar slag, from its wide stretch of sandy beach to it’s food pavillions to enjoy a pizza and a drink. It can be easily reached by bicycle, which is good news because as a family we do not drive and hiring a bike at the Eurocamp Parc we will be staying at is an option. We will be sure to pack our swimming suits, towels and if the weather is right? Make a day of it at the beach!
A Day Trip to Brussels is a must!!
A Day in Brussels
Brussels is a beautiful place to visit and not just for their imfamous belgain waffles and chocolate! The architecture alone is worth the visit and with so much to see and do, a day trip to Brussels is without a doubt a must-do!
I would love to take the family to see the Manneken Pis, which is just the imfamous statue of the little pissing boy. But something you need to see if you viist Brussels! We would take the TinTin comic mural walk to see how many we can find before taking the train out to visit Mini Europe, which is a fun attraction and enjoy classic belgain sugar waffles by the Atomium. All before heading back to Duinrell.
Amsterdam Zoo
Amsterdam is only a 40 minute journey from where will be staying, so I think a visit to Amsterdam Zoo is a must! Apparently they have an amazing collection of animals that are very well housed and cared for. Which is great to hear! It is also a place to spend your time walking around, as there is a lot to see! Including the Planeterium! Children aged 13 and up, pay adult prices {€25} and €12 for 3-12yrs. There are no family ticket options which is a shame, but that won’t put us off visiting!
A day at the Tiki pool in the park
Another top reason for choosing this park for our family holiday. Having an indoor and outdoor tiki pool onsite! My kids are so excited for this waterpark and I have to admit, so sm I! I have kids who are not so keen on waterslides and a pair of daughters are crazy for them and with 21 slides to get thrills from and have fun on? I think this is going to be a huge hit with my gang!
Chill day
Having a day off from sightseeing, exploring and being top adventurers is a must-do on every holiday! Wouldn’t you agree? A time to just faff about, soak up the Netherlands way of life, recharge, have nowhere {really} to be. I actually love that feeling after a few busy days!
Amusement park day
This is one of the top two reasons we chose Duinrell Parc to visit on our family holiday this year. When a park has not only a waterpark on site, but an amusement park too? I mean, come on! I don’t need to tell you how great that is! And the best part? The amusement park is free to all holiday park guests. And with over 40 attractions for big kids, small kids, or the family as a whole? We are going to have some fun {and some scares by the looks of some of those rollercoasters!}.
As family holidays go, this one will mostly be on site which is a great option to have. And this is mainly because there is so much to do on site in Duinrell in the Netherlands, that there really is no need to venture out of it, unless you want too. We will be making two big day trips while in Wassenaar, Netherlands to Brussels and to Amsterdam zoo for the day.
