AD | Back to School with Learning Resources

The kids have all gone back to school and from a Mum who was quite anxious about the whole thing? {OK, very anxious!} It has all went far better than I could have hoped and my gang are happy – which is all we can ever hope for, right? I am so excited for them to all have a decent school routine in their lives again. I’m also excited to have a routine for me too because as much as I live for slow mornings and quiet days? I live for structure and routine as well. So, with education back into full swing again, I am excited to share that I have teamed up with Learning Resources once again {one of my favourite educational based brands} to share with you a great selection of Back to School learning products. 

I think we can all admit that school isn’t what it once was and more needs to be done at home {in my opinion} to fill the void. I love doing anything educational at home with my kids because it’s good for them to know that learning doesn’t have to boring!

It is also good for them to see & understand that learning can be fun and you can learn from it at the same time. I am referring to Annabelle specifically here, who is my 7-year-old daughter. And especially after a day at school, the last thing you want to do is more work, right? But, I will ask her “Let’s play a game, instead!” and she’s all for it. Which is so exciting because through playing these games over the last week, she has been learning mental maths, her time’s tables and tricky words while having fun. Thus, removing that dreaded “school-work” feeling. 

Mathlink Cubes Early Maths Starter Kit

Mathlink Cubes have been around since I was in school. Which was many moons ago! They are such a great home learning resource to have in the house and also in the classroom, too. They are suitable for children aged 3 years & up and they are great for getting to know number patterns, shapes, multiplication, number bonds and so much more. 

This Early Maths Starter set also comes with a selection of double-sided write & wipe cards, 100 Math link cubes in ten different colours. We use these almost every day with any kind of numerical question or query in need of a solution. 

We absolutely love this set and it will see her through her Primary school years and help her develop, define and perfect her math skills covering a range of numerical topics. 

Perfecting your time’s tables recall with Tackling Tables

During the lockdown, I worked with Annabelle on her time’s tables, which she really took to. We are currently up to our 5 times tables which is I think is amazing. But I was excited to receive this Tackling Tables kit to play with her.

I know, since Annabelle has started Primary four that multiplication will be a big factor in her numeracy over this school year. Knowing and being able to recall your time’s tables is a huge part of basic maths and so far, Annabelle is doing really well. I love that we can do this game for 5-10 minutes per day {which is what is advised} and I can already see her progressing with them. 

I am such a huge believer that learning isn’t just done within the walls of the school. There is so much learning that can be achieved at home and this is honestly a perfect addition to our educational games for home learning. 

Sum Swamp – A super fun addition & subtraction game

Alongside the Tackling Tables set, we’ve had all kinds of fun playing Sum Swamp – the addition & subtraction game. This is an addition and subtraction game which is basically adding and subtracting your way through the swamp to the finish line. The first one to get there wins!

Now, Annabelle is a very competitive little girl so playing this with her was hilarious because there is no skill to it as it’s all based on how the dice falls. But it is a lot of fun to play and I really like how it is increasing her mental maths without feeling like homework! 

Sight Word Swat!

Literacy is a subject that we struggled with Annabelle when she first started school. Mainly because she had an undiagnosed tongue tie by the aged of three and ended up with quite severe speech delay. However, she has come through all of that and going over the pronunciation of high-frequency words over the years has really helped. We still need a little work but this Sight Word Swat game is great fun to play.

Annabelle’s ability to read has leapt forward so far over the last year. I could not be more proud! I finally got her Teacher to listen to me about her reading capabilities. Once she did, within 2 months she went from the bottom reading group to the top. 

This game has 300 words {150 double-sided cards} that are required when it comes to reading. Each of the words is coloured coded due to different difficulty levels and the tricky words are highlighted in yellow.

The premise of the game is to spot the word on the fly and swat it! Which with Annabelle’s competitive side, you can imagine how hard she swats those words!
