AD | 8 tips from a Bride when planning your own Wedding
My husband and I got married five years ago this year and this may sound incredibly corny, but it really was the best day. We {or should I say, I} planned it down to the littlest detail. And better yet? It was on a budget! I am going to share with you 10 tips from a Bride when it comes to planning your own wedding. Proving that you can have a beautifully perfect wedding day without the obscene cost.
You can have a wedding on a budget
My first tip is to get planning early! The first thing on every bride’s mind is the dress! And alongside the venue? This should be the first thing on your checklist. I did go to a few Bridal shops and tried on their beautiful wedding dresses. Not forgetting shopping for your Bridesmaids! There is a whole range of beautiful dresses out there for your Bridal Party. From traditional Bridesmaid dresses and you can even find your prom dress!
As mentioned in my first tip to start planning early, I mentioned the all-important wedding dress. These do not have to cost the earth! My wedding dress was bought online and after some tailoring from a local wizard/seamstress, it was the most perfect wedding dress. It was a simple tea-length dress with the most beautiful embellishments. So keep that in mind when shopping for your wedding dress. Mine, including the seamstress fees, cost me £300.
Weekday over the weekend!
This is the biggest tip I can give you, consider having a weekday wedding over a weekend one! Especially if you are working on a budget. The money you save can be astronomical! We saved thousands! Which in turn, allowed us to include things such as a Photobooth and a professional face painter on our big day. Not to mention all of the extras I was able to craft myself.
Once you have your venue, date & wedding dress ticked off the list. Then the next thing I advise to book would be your wedding photographer. Once again, these do not have to cost the earth. You can look into those just starting up, even student photographers branch out to do weddings as experience and to build up their portfolios. You can reduce costs in a whole manner of ways. For example, for ours? We booked for four hours and all images that were taken both edited and original format put on a flash drive. I wanted to make our own wedding album.
Have you considered a Wedding Photo Sharing App?
Another way to get more photos of your big day is from your guests! We used a specific hashtag for ours but there are so many wedding photo sharing apps out there for you to look into.
I think using a photo-sharing app is an amazing idea. Even though our hashtag worked out so well to collect any extra photos taken by guests, I still think having a dedicated app is a great option to consider.
Another tip that I found invaluable when planning our big day was to craft as much as you can. You can have a craft day/evening with your Bridal party to assemble your guest invitations, favour boxes, decor for tables and more. Doing this, believe it or not, once again can save you hundreds of pounds! It cost me £30 to have all of my invitation pieces printed out, all I had to do was cut out everything and assemble them how I wished.
As for my favour boxes and things to keep conversations flowing on our tables, all of it was found on eBay. Or I sourced the idea on Pinterest and created my own. All crazy simple and 100% worth it if you are looking to add that personal touch to your big day.
Continuing on with the craft theme, have you considered baking your own wedding cake? I was quoted £400…for sponge. Which is something to consider! If you can whip together a cake, then what is stopping you from baking and decorating your own! Absolutely nothing! I did a naked style, three-tiered victoria sponge cake with artificial flowers {with stems cut off} from Ikea.
Overall…
Lastly, enjoy it. There is only so much you can do, especially if doing it all on a budget as we did! Our special day was as relaxed as it could possibly be and it was truly wonderful. A little incite to ours? We had a 4pm wedding on Thursday and that morning? Our two girls had their first day of school. One Secondary & one Preschool. So we did school runs, as well as me running up to the venue to decorate the candy station, photobooth, glitter tattoo station for the kids and more. It was mental! But I blinked and before I knew it I was walking up the aisle!
