AD | 8 Helpful Tips to Consider when Planning Your Wedding Day!
When it comes to taking on the huge job of planning your wedding, whatever it’s size. Whichever way you look at it, there is so much to consider, think of and plan to make the day exactly how you want it to be. I planned my wedding and made our Wedding Save the Dates, Invitations and RSVP cards. I continued with the DIY route and bought and assembled 100 wedding table favours and place cards.
The main thing I undertook as the Bride to be {and admittantly, it was adventurous of me} but I made my own wedding cake. I remember being quoted £400 for a Naked style Wedding Cake and I recall thinking “£400 for sponge?!” and decided to make it myself. We had a beautifully relaxed Wedding day, with 100 guests at a beautiful central City Hotel and for under £5000. I am going to share with you 8 helpful tips that will hopefully help you when it comes to planning your big day.
8 Helpful Tips when Planning your Wedding
I won’t lie, planning your wedding isn’t an easy task. There is a lot to juggle, budget for, consider, arrange, design, coordinate and plan. I gained a new found respect for wedding planners when creating our perfect day! Because there were times I did consider paying for their services due to the stress of it all. But, if you put all of your ideas, colours, preferences etc into a row, then you too can plan your perfect big day within a budget.
Get yourself a Wedding Planner Diary
I cannot stress to you how having a wedding planner diary will help to keep you organised. Set yourself daily, weekly or monthly goals to make calls, arrange appointments, go to have dress and or suit fittings etc.
Use Pinterest to your Advantage
Pinterest is a vortex of inspiration, ideas, colour palettes, cake designs galore! I don’t know what I would have done {personally} if not for Pinterest to inspire me on every step I took when planning my wedding. It is actually where I got the design for our Naked style Wedding Cake, that I made myself. Crazy, right?
Have Processo & Craft Evenings with friends to help you!
With invites to design, cut out, put into envelopes and post. Not to mentioning you have decided to DIY your own wedding favours, you’re going to need help! And there is no better way to have help and to make pretty awesome memories too, might I add! But to get the friends involved. Maybe keep it to your Bridal & Groomsmen party, as an idea. Then you all have this special collection of memories to share together and I think that is pretty dang special.
Etsy & eBay are your friends
Online stores, from independent retailers are so useful. You can always find the most unique pieces for your wedding on places such as Etsy & eBay.
I bought our Wedding place cards and Wedding Favours on eBay and some other specific custom wedding pieces from Etsy. All within your budget too, so do consider using them when it comes to planning your wedding day. Shop around for your Dress, Rings & Suits!
The Dress is pretty much the keystone piece, right? For any Bride-to-be! So my advice? Shop around! Especially if you are on a budget. Don’t be afraid to look on Etsy, eBay and even Vinted for preloved Wedding gowns. I bought mine from eBay {from China} for $70 and even though it came in all the wrong measurements, which I won’t lie, was a stress! I just took it to a local seamtress in Moira and she worked her magic {overall cost for her work was £150} and completely tailored my dress for me and I felt like a princess.
The same applies when choosing your wedding bands. They don’t have to be a rare platinum, sculpted by the hands of a blind monk in Tibet! You know? It comes down to simple beauty. With a huge choice of moissanite bridal sets available, as well as moissanite eternity bands and even men’s moissanite rings, you are spoilt for choice!
Consider a week day Wedding!
We opted for a weekday wedding and sure, it’s not ideal for a lot of your wedding guests with work etc. However with enough notice given and if they really want to be there, they’ll be there. Our wedding was £10000 cheaper because we had it on a Thursday rather than a Saturday. And even better? Our ceremony did not start until 4pm, so our guests could even have a half day before the wedding festivities and mot if not all of them had the next day off. Hello long weekend!
Buffet dinner over a sit-down meal
Having a sit down meal at a wedding really inflates the overall cost of your wedding. However, if you consider having a buffet with a sit down option, it massively helps to keep within your budget.
We had a delicious buffet meal for 100 guests, in a gorgeous venue, with all of the attire, fun for the kids, transport and more. And we’re so happy we went for a buffet sit down meal over a 3-course meal for our wedding.
Create fun stations for the kids {& big kids too!}
If you choose to have kids at your wedding {some choose not too and that’s OK too!}. However, if you do, having activity stations available for them is a great way to keep the little ones entertained. Such as face painting, colouring in, balloon modelling and glitter tattoos to name a few ideas.
You could even invest in a portable projector, operated via your phone and have a little cartoon corner for whenever the kids need a little time out from the party! So many easy and affordable ways to keep the kids attending happy and in turn, allowing the parents to enjoy the day as well.
