7 ways to celebrate Halloween during Covid!

7 ways to celebrate Halloween during Covid!

Halloween is around the corner and I have to admit, I have been planning it long before now. This is our favourite time of the year! And I think we can all agree that this year, it just won’t be the same. However, we can make sure we still make it as spooky, fun and safe as possible. The question on my mind for a good while now, well OK, since lockdown originally happened back in March. Was, will covid effect Halloween? And long story short, of course, it will. However, that doesn’t rule out us being able to alter our plans to fit the current guidelines, restrictions and safety precautions in our communities. And more importantly, to still celebrate Halloween!

7 ways to celebrate Halloween during Covid

I think, after how 2020 has been thus far, we need to make the most out of these seasonal times. We need to make a big deal, go all out and give ourselves a little light in what has been a tough & dark year. All over social media, I have seen little pumpkin setups and Autumnal accents being popped into their decor. Which I am loving by the way! I have also seen people talking about Halloween trees and just planning on making Halloween huge this year and in my opinion, rightly so!

So I figured I would share some of the things we plan on doing to make Halloween extra special this year and more importantly, finding ways to celebrate Halloween during this covid pandemic.

Go big or go home with the decorations!

We always go all out for Halloween with it comes to decorating the house. In fact, I actually think the decorating gets bigger every year! So this year is to be no exception. We are going to go all out, be as spookily festive as we can be because we need something fabulous to see us through the end of what has been, one hell of a year!

Halloween

Glow in the Dark Egg Hunt

I am so excited to give my kids there own glow in the dark egg hunt this year. It is something we have never done before and all you need is the plastic fillable eggs that you’d use over Easter, get yourself some glow sticks, pop them into said eggs with a trick or a treat and you’re set.

You can even decorate the eggs to fit into the Halloween theme. Get some medical gauze and wrap them up to look like mummies. Doodle on some spooky faces or even add Halloween stickers if you aren’t the creative kind!

Throw a Zoom Pumpkin Carving Party!

I think it’s clear we aren’t going to be able to have our usual annual Pumpkin Carving Party and that sucks. However, we can still do it via the Zoom app. Which I think can be just as fun! I know restrictions on how many people from different households you can have in your home is forever changing at the moment. But if some people can make it? Great! If not then get them on zoom! Even have a prize ready for the winner of the best-carved pumpkin!

This could be a medal you can send in the post, some treats, a certificate, anything you can think of. Just something to make it memorable and fun.

Socially-distanced Trick or Treating

Trick or Treating is my kids favourite time of the year and it would be a tragedy if they couldn’t do it. However, where there is a will, there is a way, right?

I thought we could set up a table at the end of our garden, with a cauldron of treats, maybe even a wee glow stick or two for the kids to take! Not forgetting a sanitising bottle they can use also. Optional use of course!

My kids and I would still dress up and wave as they popped by and this way, the kids still get to trick or treat safely. Which is key considering everything going on at the moment.

Family Halloween Movie Marathon {or a spooky one!}

We love Halloween movies and with 4 out of five of my kids not being into scary movies, family movies have to be our thing. However, I do plan to split up my evening and watch super spooky movies with my teenage daughter, who loves them.

Some great family Halloween movies are Hocus Pocos {obviously!}, Spooky Buddies, Goosebumps, Paranorman and even Hotel Transylvania! For the spookier movies, we plan to maybe watch one of the SAW movies or a classic jump scare like A Quiet Place or rewatch one of our favourites, IT. Either way, grab some popcorn, get a cosy blanket and enjoy a movie together.

Have a Halloween Disco

My Primary school kids always looked forward to their school Halloween disco. That is clearly not going to happen this year, so why not throw your own! We have a few disco lights here at home and a pretty epic Halloween music playlist on Spotify, so we are going to shake our hips as we rock out to the Monster Mash or yell “GHOSTBUSTERS!” when we’re asked, “Who you gonna call?”!

Put on a ghoulish spread of goodies!

I have been obsessed with grazing table ideas at the moment and I even came across a Halloween one, which was insane! So I think this might be something I might go for this year, but obviously on a much smaller scale as it will most likely only be us at home for Halloween this year.

But including things like spider pizzas, witches finger hotdogs, spooky pretzels, ghost brownies and more.

So, those are my ideas on how to celebrate Halloween during covid this year. This pandemic is clearly here to stay for a while, so we might as well figure out ways to regain normality as best we can, as safe as we possibly can.

How do you plan to celebrate Halloween this year?

  • Great ideas! I was struggling to think about some ways to get the little ones to have fun, even on this virus situation (which can affect them more than we think)

Thank you so much for sharing!

    Blessings 🙂
