5 reasons to visit Lapland with your family this Christmas

Just this week, my youngest looked at me and said: “It’s almost time for Santa to visit, isn’t it Mummy?”. Which I replied, “Yes love, it is” – her little face lit up! This time is a such a magical one that I just love it, I’m sure you know the exact feeling I am referring too. Unless you’re a scrooge, but you’re not a scrooge reading this, are you?
Every year I try to make Christmas that little bit more magical than the last. You might be thinking that I am making things harder for myself and it a lot of ways, I do! But it’s all about the kids and the magic at Christmas and I am totally here to make that happen. And a thing that has been on my mind the last few years has been visiting Lapland.
Being able to immerse your child into everything Christmas, from the dog-sledge rides, the knee-deep snow or the log cabins filled with elves, storytellers and Santa himself! We have never done Family Snow cabin holidays in Lapland before and I am here for all of that, so sign me up!
Why visit Lapland? {As if you need one reason nevermind five!}
Reason#1 – Get into the Christmas spirit
For us Parents, Christmas can be hard to embrace sometimes. With all of the running around buying last minutes Christmas gifts, or just getting yourself sorted for Christmas in general. It’s an insane time of year and as much as we hope we had more time to sit back and enjoy it. That rarely happens! So, getting your butt on a plane to Lapland will be a sure-fire way to get yourself into the Christmas spirit.

Being able to see Christmas through the minds of our children will give us perspective {I think} and really help us get into the spirit of Christmas. How could you not surrounded in all of that snow and workshop elves!
Reason#2 – Stay in a log cabin
I don’t know about you guys, but I’ve never stayed in a log cabin before. With cosy sofas to relax on, a fire to sit in front of in the evenings – it sounds like heaven, right?

The log cabins in the Lapland snow have everything you need for your time there. The charm of a log cabin alone has me intrigued, never mind the snuggling up with the family, hot chocolates in our hands after a day in the snow.
Reason#3 – Experience a real Winter Wonderland adventure
Everyone has a bucket list, right? Mine is to experience a dog sledge with my children. Hearing them say “mush” as the Huskies start running in the snow, pulling us along behind it. The rush, the experience – it’s pretty magical!

Reason#4 – Visit Santa Claus Village!
The Santa Claus Village in Rovaniemi, Finland is known to be the ‘official home’ of the big man himself. You can meet Santa, Mrs Claus and their hard-working workshop elves. You can even meet Rudolph – which is every kid’s dream, right?

To make it extra special you can have your photo taken with Santa and even send postcards from Santa’s official residence. This includes using Santas extra special postmark, from the Santa Claus Post Office.
Reason#5 – Meet Santa’s helpers!
You can get up close and personal to Santa’s helpers at the Sami Reindeer farm in Finland.

You may even be lucky enough to help feed the herd or ride in an actual reindeer sleigh across the Finnish snow.
Those are my 5 reasons to visit Lapland this Christmas…
I think to have the chance to visit Santa’s official residence, experience a dog sledge or even have a ride on a reindeer sleigh sum up Christmas for me. If those things don’t make Christmas magical for you & your family, then I don’t know what does!
Lapland has always been a destination I’ve wanted to take my children too. To absorb all of that festive joy and magic is what Christmas is all about. It’s so much more than gift-giving and running around the shops like a headless chicken.
It’s about family, making memories, enjoying magical experiences together and just generally filling yourself to the brim with Christmas spirit.
Have you ever visited Lapland, or like us, is it on your travel bucket list?

It does’t take much to get me in the holiday spirit. 😉 I love the reindeer. This is something my granddaughter would flip to see in person. 🙂
