20 Books of Summer & A Free Reading Challenge Printable!

I will fully admit, that I am a summer school loving Mum. As well as going on days trips, having some downtime with the kids and just enjoying everything school summer holidays have to offer. We also, or better still, I also like to keep the kid’s minds sharp. Sharp with regards to their numeracy and comprehension, mainly for Annabelle. And for Jacob, focusing on his Maths, Languages & creating English reports. However, as much as I would like to do this reading challenge with Jacob. I cannot see that happening.
Some kids just don’t enjoy reading. However, Miss Annabelle loves a good book! So this is why I have put together a 20 Books of Summer Reading Challenge that includes a free printable. Especially if you’d like to join in with your kids, too! It’s something a little fun and what an achievement to look back on, on how many books you can read over the school summer holidays.

This will keep her reading skills sharp and give her a good boost for her Primary 5 reading journey come September. And after the last educational year, they have had? …With homeschooling and lockdowns, this is needed more than ever if you ask me! So I am excited to share this fun Reading Challenge Printable with you all and watch Annabelle colour in each circle after each book has been read.
Lockdowns & Reading groups
Before the first lockdown, Annabelle was in the lowest reading group in the class. Mainly because the teacher didn’t believe in her reading potential. And a few months before lockdown, she shot to the top reading group inside 8 weeks. All because I had to make the teacher see her reading capabilities. It is CRAZY that I had to actually aim her eyes to actually see something that was right in front of her. But anyway…it all sorted itself out in the end.
I would like Annabelle to try and keep that standard. Even though she was held back a year due to her speech delay, her reading has come on in leaps and bounds. And she has impressed us, as her parents, to no end. And more importantly, she is so proud of herself and knowing how far she has come to overcome that part of her life.

It wasn’t easy, not by any means, however, if you have a child with speech delay, then you might like to read up on our experience. And read up on the things I had to do to fight for her and also be her own speech & language therapist too! Unqualified, of course, and with the help of YouTube!
Our 20 Books of Summer list
I thought it would be fun to list the books Annabelle has put aside to read during her Summer Reading Challenge. It might even give you some inspiration for books for your children, too. These books are aimed at children aged 6-9yrs, just for reference.

A really fun reading challenge for any bookworms out there! Or, if like us, just trying to step up the reading skills to prepare for her next Primary school term. Primary 5 is a big chance from P4 and the work will get harder. And considering the last educational year for all of our children? I think they need every little bit of help that they can get or be given.
Anyways, if you get involved in your own reading challenge and happen to download and use my printable. I would love to see how your kiddies get on! Drop me a tag on Instagram and I’ll reshare!

I love that your child has improved so much in her reading. I am currently looking to see how to improve my son’s reading. He is a little behind as well. I am looking into some of these books to see if I can tempt him into trying. He’s just into video games all the time 🙁
