Settling into Preschool {One week on!}

Before I get into this post I thought I would point out that my other children are settling into their new school years just fine and I’ve so proud of them all. But I thought I would focus more on little Miss B because leaving home for just a few shorts hours each day, when you’ve never done it before to go into preschool is a BIG deal.

Her first day, which was also on the day the darling man and I got married, was a bit of a crazy day for her {to say the least} but she was so excited for school. So much so that we didn’t expect her to crumble with heartache when we kissed her and told her we’d be back in a little while. We did explain it all to her beforehand but I don’t think she actually got it, you know? But after a little consoling {and a lot of heartache from her Dad and me} we left her in the hands of her lovely Teachers. Within minutes her Teacher came out to tell us that she was still sniffling {queue heartache} but OK and starting to mingle.

Walking away was tough. Tougher than I thought it would be if I’m honest because it dawned on me that was to be my last first day of preschool. The darling man was just as sad but he knew she’d be OK. The hour passed by so quickly and before we knew it she was being picked up and taken to get a sausage roll from the local bakery {as promised}.

Every day since has been met with a mixture of easy & serious Mummy-guilt fueled drop-offs. The first day we were met with tears, but each one since has been easier and even though we have the occasional setback {e.g. she’ll sulk and lie in a corner away from everyone for a few minutes}, she seems to be settling in just fine.

So, one week on my little preschooler seems to be settling in just fine. Next week she will be in for a little bit longer {2hrs} so I hope she’s looking forward to having a little bit more time with her new preschool friends.

It’s so hard to believe that my final child is no longer a toddler, but a preschooler.

How did THAT happen!!
