School’s out for Summer!

I honestly cannot believe that the school’s have broken up for the summer holidays already. It’s so crazy how fast this year has gone. But, nevertheless, Summer time is here and surprise surprise it’s raining. How typical is that! Well, in fairness, it’s not so typical for Northern Ireland as it just comes down to rotten luck. We live in hope that we’ll get a few weeks of dry and dare I say it, sunnier weather before the kids go back to school at the end of August/beginning of September.

Our Summer has no plans {is that crazy?}. We prefer to plan things by ear, see how the winds blows and go from there. Not being drivers, we’re sort of limited in the grand scheme of things but then again we are surrounded by lots of lovely play areas for the kids to have fun and of course, little tea shops for Mummy to indulge {usually with a cheeky brownie} as the kids play.

This Summer starting has so many meanings for my children. From my eldest son leaving school and looking into work come September. My 15yr old will be heading into his fifth year of school bringing more intense exams. Ellie leaves her Primary school years behind to start her secondary education. Jacob can ditch his book bag and finally have a proper school bag for Primary 4 and he’s super excited about going over to the bigger end of the school. Then there is little Annabelle. My baby. She starts her pre-school year this September {queue ALL of the emotions!} and I think that milestone is going to be the straw that breaks this Mama camels back.

However, as I mentioned briefly in the paragraph above, my eldest girl has officially finished Primary school. Queue the tears. I went to her end of school leavers assembly and oh my goodness it was an emotional rollercoaster. The Teachers & children worked together so hard to make the leavers assembly a really beautiful one. However, the moment that broke me was when they started showing photos of the children when they started school way back in P1 to now as they leave in P7. E.M.O.T.I.O.N.A.L!

So, that’s essentially how our Summer kicked off. I guess the summer will bring lots of prepping for the new school terms, day trips to parks and beaches {weather permitting} and let’s not forget our Wedding! Which if you ask me, is coming around far too fast!

How has your Summer kicked off? Has your children’s Summer holidays started?

I think having no plans as such and being open is a great idea, I am emotional even thinking about the idea of one of my little ones finishing school. Bless!
