Reporting for Duty at the Lego Discovery Centre | AD

When Annabelle turned six back in January, she wished and wished that she could go to Lego Land. So, during our recent family holiday in Blackpool, we took a trip to Manchester to visit the Lego Discovery Centre. Which is the next best thing when you’re six!

Lego Discovery Centre & Reporting for Duty!

My two older children visited before a number of years ago and they loved it back then. So, it was also nice to see them enjoying it just as much this time around, too. But for Annabelle, this was a wonderland of Lego, construction and rides with so much to see & do.

As you walk in {after you’ve paid of course!}. You walk in to get your photo taken then onwards to meet Professor Brick-a-Brack. It’s all very fun and the kids get their own special piece of Lego to keep, too.

After exiting Professor Brick-a-Brack’s lab, you come to Kingdom Quest, one of the rides at the Lego Discovery centre. 

Lego Miniland

Next up is the Lego Miniland – filled with sights and much-loved landmarks such as Blackpool tower, there is a football stadium {which is also a game for the kids to play} and so much more.

It’s an impressive sight and every so often, the room goes dark and everything lights up, which is my favourite part. I’m a sucker for fairy lights of any kind!

When you come out of Miniland, you are lead into the main room of the Lego Discovery Centre. 

Lego Discovery Centre VR Simulators

The VR simulator costs five pounds per child, so quite expensive and lasted around 5 minutes. Jacob thinks it’s a great experience but did say it was a bit expensive – which I have to agree. Great for a first time experience, but certainly not something you could do again and again.

After the VR experience, the kids Reported for Duty, another new part of the discovery centre. You take the ‘role’ of a Firefighter and you need to build your own rescue helicopter, which you can also test out to see how far it can go. We couldn’t get ours any further than 25 or 50!

It was nice to see lots of new stop motion animation stations set up – something my bunch really enjoyed creating during our day here.

Merlins Apprentice Ride

We took a ride on Merlin’s apprentice ride – where the faster you cycle, the higher you go. It’s very fun and perfectly safe as we all get strapped in and also it’s only the outside pedals that control the height {not the inside seats where the smaller kids need to sit}.

Annabelle and Jacob went into the Ninjago City Adventure playground, which is another new feature for the centre. Allowing the parents a sit down for 10-15mins, which I am all for! Before they decided to be as competitive as kids can be on the Treadwall which is amazing.

Basically, the kids are timed to see how high they can climb {in metres} by the time runs out. Ellie’s record was 20m and the record for that day was 21m – s she was so close to beating that!

We experienced 4D cinema, which is always fun. If you’ve never been to a 4D cinema before it’s a much more interactive experience.

You wear 4D glasses, feel the wind on your face, maybe even be splashed with water too! We got to see the new Lego Movie snippet and the kids loved it.

After that it was the chaos of bouncing between more Kingdom Quest rides, reporting for duty, building cars and testing them out on the race track.

We went on the Merlins apprentice ride repeatedly because my bunch loved seeing who could go the highest for the longest.

As our day was coming to a close, we had one final part of the centre to visit {before the gift shop, naturally!}. The other newest part of the Lego Discovery centre is Space Mission, which was very cool.

You get to see a simulated launch, see loads of cool space lego constructions and even have a go at building some yourself.

There is also more stop motion technology, which we live for and the kids made some really cool little videos.

The kids chilled out at this section of Space Mission for quite some time. It’s not often my bunch sit still for very long – so this was nice! It was also nice seeing them so interested in something such as stop motion animation.

So I think this will have to be something we continue on at home, for sure. 

The last part before venturing into the gift shop {every kids favourite part of anywhere!} there was a very cool Lego disco tunnel. The kids busted out some serious moves. 

Overall, the kids {and even us parents} had a fabulous day!

As a family, we love the Lego Discovery Centre in Manchester. It’s great value for money, you can easily spend the entire day there and it’s amazing to see what kids can create with lego. The possibilities are endless!
