How to decorate your home for a Halloween Party!

Over the years, we have thrown some fun Halloween parties! We have a cool collection of Halloween guff that allows us to decorate our house pretty spooky come Halloween night. We have old buys, recent buys and old favourites that come out year after year and somehow, our display is just getting bigger and better.
Throughout this post, I am going to give you a few ideas on how to decorate your home to look extra spooky on Halloween night. Especially if you are going to have a wee party! My kids all love Halloween, so aren’t bothered by the spooky lighting, spider webs and captured zombies in the living room! Let me tell you more…
Tips on how to decorate your home from Halloween
Decorating your home in a particular way on the run-up to Halloween, in my opinion, is key. So my first tip is to pick a theme. Are you looking to have a Haunted House, or maybe an abandoned graveyard! Perhaps a spiders nest or even a circus theme is your choice! Whatever you pick, stick with it. However, this is how we decorate our home for Halloween and my tips of little things to add.
Spider webs

We have a love/hate relationship with spider webs because they can look absolutely amazing, but also attract actual spiders! A bit of a catch 22, but I think they are worth it!
Get a ball of mismatched socks and roll them into a ball. Now, wrap a spider web around it and make it look almost like a spiders egg hanging from the ceiling. Super cool and really creepy. To give it the optimum effect, add a few plastic spiders to finish it off.
You can also just add spider web anywhere and everywhere. It is super creepy when the lighting is just right and really adds a spooky factor to your Halloween decor.
Spooky Lighting

Creating a spookily lit atmosphere is so much easier than you think. A few years ago, places like Home Bargains, B&M and even Poundland sold coloured light bulbs. And you better believe that I snapped those right up. However, over the years we have adapted our home for other reasons, with LED strip lights {in our kitchen and den} and they just so happen to be super useful when trying to give a room a certain mood, shall we say.
I love having each room throughout the downstairs of our home a different colour. So, the living room would be green, the den would be red and the kitchen would maybe have flashing lights for a bit of a disco feel. Because, why not right. I believe the saying is “This Kitchen was made for dancing!”.
So look in shops and online for coloured light bulbs or maybe even invest in some strip lights. They are lots of fun and for all seasons too!
Halloween props

I love a good Halloween prop and we have a fun collection dotted around the house. From a jump scare snack bowl to Terrance, our resident skeleton who likes to chill out by the dining table. We also have a magical broom that spins and moves around the house as well as a cobweb wrapped zombie {who is motion sensored} hanging from the ceiling. And lots more!
Our latest purchase was a 2.1m Inflatable Pumpkin Reaper and we are obsessed! I know for sure he is going to be a huge hit this Halloween in our garden with the trick and treaters!
So my advice? Stock up on some fun Halloween props! They really do make your home one to remember!
Get crafty with your windows
We actually did this last Halloween and all the kids had a blast joining in! We painted a big window display of Pumpkins in a graveyard, with a moon and a Haunted house on a hill in the background. It was really cool and the neighbours loved it too. This is a really fun way to decorate the main feature of your home for Halloween.
So why not get creative with your window this year and give it a real spooky vibe!
Play Horror Sounds & Music
We have a really fun Spotify playlist that we use every Halloween. And at the beginning of the evening, it is all howls, squeals into the night, creaking doors and so much more. It really adds to the atmosphere as everyone arrives. And then, as the evening progresses, the Halloween songs start to come on. And true Halloween song classics, such as Ghostbusters, the Monster Mash, the Beetlejuice playlist, Spooky Scary Skeletons and so much more.
So these are just a few but very effective ideas on how to decorate your home for Halloween this year! It’s how we do it and my kids {and their friends} go crazy for it. So it’s a big win!
Have a safe & fun Halloween!! xx
