Our day trip to Castlerock {in photos}

Last weekend we took an impromptu day trip to Castlerock. A little seaside village up on the North Coast of northern Ireland and it’s a place dear to my heart. We spent every school holiday at the caravan in Castlerock when I was younger; it’s also a place I’d love to share with my children too.

A few years ago I took my two older boys with one of their friends. They were just nine and ten years old at the time and we spent the day body boarding on the beach. Something my Brother & I used to do as kids right on that very beach. Sharing that with them was pretty amazing and seeing them love it as much as I did was really bittersweet.

This recent trip to Castlerock was my three youngest children’s first time going and quite frankly, I was shocked that I hadn’t taken them sooner. The first time I took my husband there was when it was my turn to organise the ‘date day’; so I decided to take him for a picnic up at Downhill House.

It turned out that we were {unbeknown to us} ‘with child’ with our soon-to-be four-year-old daughter at the time too. So Castlerock holds an array of amazing memories and I really hope it continues to gift that to us.

Here’s a LOAD of photos from our day trip;

Yes, that is actual frost on the sand. It was freezing!

We found a random ball on the beach. Football anyone?

Ellie loves shells and she found this pretty awesome one after five minutes of being on the beach. She declared it her lost unicorn horn.

Castlerock beach is huge!

My youngest boy. Isn’t he handsome! #biasedmum

Our journey up to Downhill House.

You see the creepy Grinch-like face in the tree trunk too, right?

The relationship between a StepDad & his Stepchildren is so so important. These two are pretty good friends, but they can also be as stubborn as each other too.

We really had such a lovely day, it was a cold one and it took us about two days to warm up! Nevertheless, the kids are asking to go back again and they’re even keen to give body boarding a try! Hurrah! Roll on the summer {or spring} for our next Castlerock visit.

Do you have a place that holds a special place in your heart?

    That looks lovely! I’ve never been over to Ireland, I keep trying to organise a trip there but something always comes up. I really must get on that!

    There’s a couple of places like this for me, you’ve inspired me to take Robin to some of them this year!
