Christmas madness & Happy New Year wishes

It’s a Sunday today, well, at least I think it’s a Sunday. That week between Christmas & New Year always seems to meld into one large mass of wondering what day it is and wondering when the last time you had eaten was. FYI? It was ten minutes ago – and it’s hard to believe that in 12hrs time it will be the start of an entirely new year.

A new 365 days to make memories, go on adventures, laugh, cry, fall in love {more or again}, for all kinds of wonderful & amazing things to happen. And I for one cannot wait. 2017 has been a busy year, but it’s been a lovely one too. We’ve done so much together as a family and I cannot wait to do it all again in 2018.

At the start of this year, we made this family pact go on a family day trip every month and we kept up with that for a good 6/7mths I think before we ran out of places to visit – as sad as that is. We go everywhere by train you see and in retrospect, Northern Ireland isn’t that big of a place! But I’m hoping to do this again in 2018 so I had better make myself a list!

But before we celebrate the New Year, how was everyone’s Christmas? Ours was pretty manic {which isn’t anything new} and all of the plans I had for December – to watch Christmas movies, drink hot chocolates and have lots of cosy evenings with my family may not have gone to plan due to well…life! I’m sort of OK with it. Sort of. But hey-ho life is life and our December – as crazy as it was – turned out to be great nevertheless and that’s the main thing.

The kids & I did our annual eat-our-way-around the Belfast Continental Christmas market – always a pleasure doing that! Dutch pancakes, dinky donuts {my personal favourite} and the delicious Salsa burger from Rocket & Relish! Yum!

We went to a Santa’s Grotta ball and met a load of lovely Princesses & Superheroes.

It snowed! We haven’t had snow here in Northern Ireland for a good few years, so having it fall and actually land to become this glorious white Winter Wonderland was so magical. The kids loved it!

Getting into bed on Christmas Eve gave me butterflies as I really could not wait to see my children’s faces in the morning. That came sooner than my sleepy-self had hoped because we were abruptly woke up by three little humans barging into our room and bellowing “WAKE UP! IT’S CHRISTMAS DAAAY!”. It turns out my 12yr old set her alarm for 7 am on the dot. I’ll get her back for that later. Maybe wake her up an hour earlier for school or something. We’ll see. But revenge will be had.

So, Christmas day was insane – it went by far too quickly, we unwrapped our gifts from friends and family, consumed way too many roast potatoes and had the most magical day together. It was pretty amazing.

However, if I’m honest with you? Boxing day is my favourite day {like, ever!}. It’s a day where we can laze in our jammies, not have anything to wrap, we don’t need to pop out for this or for that. We can just….be! The kids happily played with their new gadgets & toys and we did what we always do on Boxing day – roast our Christmas turkey because Boxing Day is our day. Just us and the kids to enjoy Christmas together. And it’s my favourite day of the year. Our Boxing day dinner is my favourite meal of the year and it really is the one I look forward to the most. We pull crackers, wear dorky paper crowns and eat until we are fit to burst.

But…today is the final day of 2017. We’ve had a pretty epic year, truth be told. From body boarding in Castlerock to enjoying the amusements in Portrush and we’ve looked for Finn McCool at Giants Causeway. We celebrated our first wedding anniversary, Annabelle started Primary school and we’re continuing to kick-ass with her speech delay which is getting better every day!

We have so many plans for 2018, from press trips, a family holiday, monthly activities to enjoy as a family and birthdays to celebrate all over again! We cannot wait.

Tonight, I will be hanging out with friends and family, playing boards {very rock & roll!} Whatever you get up to tonight, enjoy yourself, be safe, and a Happy New Year from my family to yours! xx

BRING ON 2018!!

awwww what a lovely Christmas you had. The trip every month sounds perfect. I do the same. Sometimes having to be creative to find those ‘off the track’ places. But in answer to your question, I spent Christmas 2017 on the slopes of the alps doing some snowsports then huge hotel dinner in the evening.
    Happy new year 🙂
