Annabelles Unicorn Rainbow birthday party

Annabelles Unicorn Rainbow birthday party

I have said this countless times both to myself & out loud over the last week. I cannot believe my youngest child is now five years old. The realisation of her growing up so quickly is quite emotional. It feels like only yesterday that she was a tiny, squishy baby and now she is this feisty, funny & passionate little girl – who loves nothing more than smack-talking during family gaming nights and showing off her dabbing abilities. She coming into her own, perfectly!

This last week has been so much fun. I have never seen a child more excited about turning five. She was so done with being four and right now, could not be more proud of being a whole year older. Last weekend we threw her a Unicorn Rainbow birthday party – at her request. I dove into Pinterest and had this whole magical party mapped out in my head. But as usual, it never turned out quite as I planned, but the kids all had an epic time regardless!

I hired out a package from Jumping Jacks, a firm I had never used before but will certainly use again. They provided an amazing service with really friendly staff. We hired a Rainbow assault course, as well as a DiDi car Race Track – both went down a storm. If the children weren’t whizzing around the race track they were tackling the assault course. We also hired a face painter – something I find always goes down really well at a child’s birthday party.

However, before any party celebrations and us running around pouring out cups of juice and supervising a room full of children  – it was present time. Followed swiftly by me doing the finals pieces of food preparation for the party!

Annabelle really loves to help me out in the kitchen. She thrives on being given little tasks and just adores the chance to get involved – which is why her smile is ear to ear after she was given the job of making the marshmallow hats for her party.

With previous years, I have always went with the classic sweetie cone as a party bag. However, this year I did something a little different. After seeing this idea online, I just had to do it because I thought it was such a great idea.

I picked up a bag of soil & little flowerpots {from Poundland}, as well as some flower bulbs & vegetable seeds. At my local Home Bargains, I managed to find some gold coins which would be the final element in our ‘Grow your own’ party bags this year. I needed to put in at least something edible – the kids may have lynched me otherwise!

For the cake, Annabelle requested a Rainbow Unicorn to go with the theme of her party. I plan to put together a how-to post on the blog, so do keep at eye out for that! I am in no way a cake professional – I am more of a stubborn/determined follow-every-youtube-tutorial-I-can-find sort of person.

To keep in with the theme, I made these adorable Rainbow cupcakes, with their own little pots of gold {a rolo dusted with edible gold glitter}. They went down so well with the kids {& the parents!}.

The kids loved being able to get a go on the wiggle cars before the 20+ kids descended upon the hall! I’ll not lie, I fancied a go myself – they look so fun!

I think this particular moment happens at every birthday party – when you have the cut the cake you made yourself. I mean, thanks to the Wilton Cakes food colouring gels because those rainbow layers look AMAZING! But still, cutting it up to dish out to the birthday party guests was a little heart wrenching.

But the whole day was loads of fun – a little crazy at times but that was to be expected! Annabelle came home after her party ready to open up all of her wonderful gifts and said to me “Mama, I had the best birthday today – I’m such a lucky girl”. She went to bed that night with a smile on her face and suddenly all of the stress that comes with putting together a birthday party faded away. My little girls birthday wish to have a Unicorn Rainbow party was a success.

Now onto planning the next one – an official teenager party for my soon-to-be 13yr old! But I’ll share more on that nearer the time…
