A family fun day at Coral Island, Blackpool

During our family holiday in Blackpool over the Summer, we were kindly invited along to have a family fun day at one of our favourite places on Blackpool promenade – Coral Island.

If you’ve never been to Blackpool, Coral Island is a massive arcade centre, right on the promenade. There is parking nearby, if you’re a driver – check out Bonny Street car park facilities – which is just across the street from the arcade.

The arcade itself is filled with video games of all shapes and sizes, family bingo, claw machines, VR experiences and there is even a ghost train! Not to mention a selection of family restaurants to enjoy a good meal. 

Depending on what entrance you walk into Coral Island, you may miss the giant deck chair. So do check it out and make sure to get a photo! We have so many giant deckchair photos of the kids, it’s such a seaside thing to do and we adore it.

Coral Island is one of those places that no matter how busy it is, it’s big enough to accommodate everyone – or at least that’s my view! The kids had a blast playing on all kinds of arcade games. The 2p machines are always a big hit! Especially the ones that give out tickets. What is it with kids and collecting tickets?

The kids loved that there were family rides at Coral Island, specifically the Ghost train. We’re big ghost train fans! I’m referring to myself and my 6 yr old, Annabelle. She’s massively dark and twisty and I could not love her more for it if I tried.

We’ve been on our fair share of spooky ghost trains but I have to say, this one has been the best one yet! I’ll not spoil anything, but trust me – if you ever visit Coral Island, be sure to ride the ghost train! My only pointer? Keep an eye out for that scurvy Captain Jack, he got us good – twice! 

As for places to eat, you have a selection of places to enjoy a family meal. We ate in the Buccaneer and loved it. Everything from the shipwreck style decor to the staff dressed as pirates. Keep an eye on those paintings on the walls, though – the eyes move! The kids found this especially cool!

The food we ordered came out in a reasonable time, the staff were so lovely and accommodating and the food overall tasted delicious.

Overall, our family fun day at Coral Island was a real treat. We felt very spoiled and every staff member we interacted with were so lovely. You could easily spend the afternoon in Coral island, from racing camels on the camel derby to riding the ghost train. You could lose yourself in the VR experience or just have some fun with a few games of family bingo.

Then once all your money has been spent and your pockets are full of tickets, go grab a bit to eat in either of the family-friendly restaurants.

Either way, if you’re ever in Blackpool, pop in for a visit. You’ll not be disappointed and you never know, you might even win a teddy bear or two! We did! Getting those home was an adventure as they weren’t small!
