We might be moving house!

The title of this post isn’t something I thought I would be writing. I’m quite happy in the house we are in but my Husband has been trying to encourage me to move house for years. For years! Poor guy. But there is a story to tell on why I wasn’t keen on moving until now.

Since I was 17yo I have moved around a lot. Like, bounced from City to City, UK mainland back to Northern Ireland. Several houses later we moved into the one we are currently in and have been here ever since. It’s been my longest lived-in home for 20yrs – so I’ve bonded with this house – regardless of its many, many problems.

This is a rented property and the first of its many issues is the landlord. From the refusal to fix certain, and quite monumental issues with the property to just being {overall} a rubbish Landlord. He clearly cares for nothing more than the rent he gets from us every month and that’s a real shame. The area for the house we are currently in is perfect. It’s close to the children’s schools, we have local shops nearby, parks, medical centre and so forth. It’s perfect.

Over a cup of tea and some cupcakes at my son’s 9th birthday party, my Dad mentioned about a friend of his being a landlord. One thing lead to another and before I knew it we were planning to view a property that his friend had available. In the space of a short conversation and a phone call the possibility of moving – which wasn’t in our ‘right now’ plan – was becoming quite real. Thankfully the available property was a short walk away so we would still be in the area if we decided to move.

So there you go – we might be moving – Eeeek! And even though this wasn’t in our plans for right now, I’m actually quite excited! There are a lot of pros and cons at the possibility of moving. I mean, we will lose the front garden completely in the other house {if we moved!}. The overall property is slightly smaller but everything will be upgraded {rather than circa 1980!} and it even has a garage too – which we’re all excited about. I see a possible play room/D&D hang out for that space!

Now I am looking forward to *hopefully* getting this new house. To putting together our new bedrooms, and living space and the prospects of having drawers in the new kitchen – actual drawers! Our current kitchen doesn’t have drawers – not a single one – so can you imagine my excitement? It’s tragic that having drawer space will make me happy – but there you go!

We will have a functioning shower because our landlord has refused to fix our current one – which stopped working 5yrs ago! We will no longer have starlings living in our attic due to a hole in the outside guttering, we will actually have fully functioning electrics throughout the house and no longer need to use a floor lamp as lighting in our kitchen {I’m not even kidding!} – the issues go on and on! So regardless of the slightly smaller house and the lack of front garden….we would be much better off if we moved!

If there is anything that I’m not excited about it would be moving so close to Christmas. By the time all of the work is done on the other house we would be into November. November! So I’ve started sorting, boxing, binning & sending to charity already. If we’re going to move, I’d like to be ready!

So yeah, I never thought I would be excited about moving because it isn’t something I was really open to doing right now, but it’s amazing what a little chat with your Daddy can do to give you perspective.

I’ll make sure to update you guys when we know what’s happening!!

oh how exiting i really hope it all goes to plan. will you have a garden at all in the new rented house? I think i would prefer a smaller house plus garage (so much potential! we actually converting our garage into a party/guestroom in 2 years time!) to a lousy landlord he sounds no fun at all! We only rented once for 2 years but we had such a pleasant landlady who even send her partner between xmas and NY to fix our toilet! good luck with it all!

That’s so exciting, best of luck with it! I know what you mean about being reluctant to move, I have moved a lot too and I’m so attached to my current rented house, I don’t want to go anywhere ever again!

How exciting to be moving somewhere new. I hate moving and like you did a lot of it when I was younger, but we have been in our house 13 years now and I have itchy feet

Oh that’s exciting that you might be moving, you should never be in the position in your current house that your landlord has left you in x

That’s great news. We’re in the process of buying a house after years of living in a flat and I’m so excited by little things (like more kitchen space) so I can empathise with your kitchen drawer excitement. Good luck with it all!

How exciting! Moving house is such a big thing but it sounds like you’re definitely due a new Landlord :/

  14. 17/09/2017 / 7:14 AM

Oh that’s really exciting! Definitely sounds like an improvement. I can’t believe her hasn’t sorted the electrics or shower for you, what an arse

  15. 17/09/2017 / 9:08 AM

It is really scary and exciting all at the same time. I lived 13 years in one house and moved across the country and into a rented property where as I was a homeowner before. It did take a couple of months for my stress levels to calm down but now I am really happy with my move. The fact you had a bad landlord means this move is such a positive one wishing you all the best in your new home X X

  16. 18/09/2017 / 12:34 PM

OMG I can’t believe your landlord won’t fix problems that need sorting! He could get in serious trouble for that. If you guys do decide to move I wish you every happiness in your new home 🙂

Good luck with the move, can’t believe your landlord has been so unreasonable and awful about the issues you’ve had with the house. Here’s to a better chapter for you and a new house to bond to
