A visit to Belfast Zoo

It’s the Easter holidays, which means everybody {and their Mother} flocks to the zoo. I don’t know about you guys, or where you live etc, but here in Belfast? The zoo is the place to go over the school Easter break. It’s a place that even I remember being taken too with my cousins, when we were wee {many moons ago!} over the Easter holidays.

On this particular day the zoo wasn’t our main plan, but, other events unfolded and the zoo became our plan B and it turned out to be one hell of an epic decision to make.

The last time Annabelle had been to the zoo was maybe a year ago, and not only was she still in her buggy but she was also too tiny to fully appreciate what a zoo can offer. So taking her was a stress fest! But this time, oh, this time was exciting. I broke the news to the older kids which was met by leaps of joy and squeals, then when I said to Annabelle I may have actually welled up because her little face lit up like the night sky. The smile that spread over her face when I asked her “Would you like to go to the Zoo to see the Lions, Tigers & Bears?” was enough to make me well up. She now does this jittery, skippy, almost happy hoppy movement with clapping hands when she gets excited. She looks like a little rocket about to jet off into the sky. It’s quite adorable.

The new park at Belfast Zoo was ahh-mazing! It opened last March and today was our first visit since over a year ago. The new park is a serious high point of the gardens and the kids all thought it was epic too!

Annabelle was so amazed by the sea lions swimming that her hands hardly left her astonished little face.

The zoo being on the side of a mountain can have it’s perks. The views are spectacular.

The wooden sculptures around the Zoo are so much fun and the kids loved having a giggle with them too. This crocodile one was a firm favourite of Ellies.

Annabelle took it upon herself to try crawling down into the belly of the Hippo. I do wonder what goes through that kids mind sometimes!

Then of course, before leaving the Zoo shop was popped into and Annabelle, being the hat lover that she is, just had to leave wearing an explorer hat and a penguin figure.

We honestly had the BEST day at the Zoo. Annabelle was amazing, she walked EVERYWHERE! If you know Belfast Zoo at all, with it being on the side of a mountain and all, you’ll appreciate how amazing a feat that is for a 3yr old. The kids loved everything, had a blast with their cousins and I was stress-free the entire day. This is a very rare occurrence.

What zoo do you live near and when was the last time you went?

It looks like you had a lovely time! The photos are gorgeous too, she looks so sweet in her explorer hat! We live near(ish) to London zoo but we haven’t been in a long time. Your post has inspired me to plan a long overdue trip! 😀 xx
