Yes I have a sixteen year old. It’s pretty hard to believe myself, but there you have it. I sit here completely dumfounded that my son, my firstborn, is sixteen. The last 16yrs have quite literally flown by. I honestly feel like I’ve blinked and instead of him being a chubby little toddler, we’ve leapt into him on the cusp of being a young man.

The memories I have are just the most beautiful. From the moment he was born, his first smile, crawling, his first wobbly steps and more. I didn’t have a camera back then so I have very, very few images {heartbreaking, right! Not having photographic memories of your firstborn}. But I have the memories in my head and in my heart and that is more precious than having a photographic print of them I think. I can just close my eyes and I can see him toddling about as a little one and even his first school nativity play.
DSC_2588I remember one adorable moment between him & I. He was about 6yrs old and he had just developed his first wobbly tooth. A big milestone for any child.
We were sat on the door step of a friends, just chilling in the night air and chatting about this infamous wobbly tooth. He was so heartbreakingly anxious about this tooth that was once safe and secure in his mouth was now all of a sudden wobbly and on the verge of falling out. I told him about the tooth fairy that night, which intrigued him but didn’t lighten his spirits about this wobbly tooth.
DSC_2587I remember he turned to me and said the words “Mummy, will God help me get my tooth out?”, well, we’re not a particularly religious family but I just loved his question. The innocence of his words were so beautiful and I just leaned in, gave him a hug and gently told him that basically this tooth coming out was in his hands, noone elses. All it needed was a little twist and a tug and it would be in his hand.

Do you know after plucking up the courage he finally did it and I was sat there by his side through the entire process. That may seem like an insignificant mement to some, but to me it was everything. Truly everything.

Now my boy is no longer a boy, but a young man. He’s turning into a fine young man, tall, handsome and I could not be more proud.

My oldest will be fourteen in two months and I can’t believe it! He’s already taller than me (of course, I’m short. LOL). I still remember both of my boys’ first loose tooth and how scared they were about the whole thing but also how happy they were when it was finally out and the tooth fairy came. Precious memories for sure! Happy 16th Birthday to your boy! Visiting from #madmidweekbloghop
