Reducing the signs of aging with Microneedle therapy

Thinking back to when I was 18, I remember sitting in a swimming pool cafeteria – with my friends – and we talked about being ‘old’ which when your eighteen means being in your mid-thirties and having a family of our own. Naturally, at that age, you can never time-jump and know how much your life would change and how much your appearance would change. You have a sense of invisibility about yourself – however, you blink and *POOF* all of a sudden you’re in your late thirties and what feels like overnight, your young looking skin has decided to look dull, sad and signs of ageing are invading your appearance.

This is my life, right now.

It may shock some people to know that I have never had a ‘skincare routine’ – I don’t wear make-up and have always had healthy looking skin so I never felt the need to moisturise either. I have never done anything more than my morning & evening facial wash and my skin always looked vibrant & healthy. However, recently, my skin has begun to take a side-step to ageing heights and I now wish I had made more of an effort to have a skincare routine.

Swiss Clinic got in touch recently and asked me if I would like to test out their micro-needling skin renewal treatment and at first, I was a little apprehensive about the whole thing – mainly because it was something way out of my own comfort zone. But, this skin renewal treatment aims to reduce fine lines, wrinkles and scars and it can make your skin smoother & firmer – it also aims to improve elasticity. So after reading that I was like…where do I start?

Microneedle treatment

I was kindly sent a Skin roller with a 0.5 needle length, rejuvenating serum and a cleaning spray. Firstly, the skin roller caught my attention and once I saw ‘needle length’ I was wondering what I had signed myself up for. I mean, I was going to have to roll needles voluntarily over my face- not something I have ever done if I’m honest but I was curious nevertheless.

The microneedle treatment is a very simple process – and one that as a novice to the whole skincare routine could even get on board with.

  • You make sure your face is clean
  • Visually divide your face into 4 sections; both cheeks, forehead, nose & mouth.
  • Roll the skin roller over these 4 sections horizontally and then vertically for a few minutes.
  • Apply the rejuvenating serum
  • Spray your skin roller with the sanitizer.

A pretty simple process, right? I watched a few youtube videos to make sure I was about to do it correctly and I started by doing one half of my face, just on the off chance, that I’d be able to see a visible difference from the untreated side. To my surprise? There was!

I used the skin roller on the right-hand side of my face, on the cheek, forehead and being careful around my right eye – you are advised to do horizontal movements and vertical movements and what the little needles on the roller do is, they make small micro-channels in the skin. This causes the skin to respond as if it’s been damaged {which sounds quite drastic, I’ll admit – but it’s really not}. This process triggers the healing process which produces collagen and together with the rejuvenating serum, helps to strengthen the skins healing process and encourages the formation of new, healthy skin.

Now, I know the microneedle looks a little scary but it really isn’t painful at all. Once the rejuvenating gel is applied there is a little tingle and naturally {depending on how sensitive your skin is} there will be some redness – but the gel really worked for me. The tingling sensation on my skin informed me that some form of healing was happening and I was so impressed to have brighter, and slightly firmer skin after only a few days of using it.

I think this would be a great gift for anyone who has a strict skincare routine. It’s painless, easy to do and from my experience, effective. Bring on the fight against fine lines & wrinkles!

Have you ever tried microneedling therapy before? Is it something you would try?

I think you’re very brave to try it! The needle thing would scare me a bit so it’s good to hear it doesn’t hurt.
