A Potty Training Poem – Going for a Potty poo!

Going for a potty pooMy youngest, Miss Annabelle has recently said goodbye too day nappies, Woohoo! I never thought I would see the day. We are officially out of day nappies, but the potty training journey isn’t a complete success yet. We have two hurdles left to jump with hurdle number two being exactly that, the number twos!

Doing poo in a potty is such a different, crazy, weird & scary feeling for our little potty trainers, so I cannot blame them for being anxious about doing the deed on their potties. So in an act of madness/desperation or as a last hope {as I was at my wits end with my poo fearing tot} I wrote my daughter a  potty training poem called: Going for a potty poo.

Mama, I need a wee-wee,
Lets sit on the potty shall we?
Teddy can join us too,
and maybe you can even do a potty poo.

A potty poo Mama?
Yes my love, a potty poo.
It will feel weird and strange,
but just like wee-wees, poo goes in the potty too.

Will teddy go poo-poos Mama?
Yes my sweet,
and maybe if you both go,
we can get you both a potty treat.

A potty treat Mama?
For doing a potty poo?
Yes my dear,
So take my hand, and do not fear.

Close those eyes tight,
and just let it go,
it might make a splash,
and make your bum a little cold.

But that’s all part of doing a potty poo,
there is nothing to fear,
Teddy & Mummy are here with you,
so try not to shed a single tear

You’re a big girl now,
soon you will be three
doing potty poos are as easy,
as one, two, three!

As you can tell I am never going to be the next Seamus Heaney! However, it came from the heart and it felt right to jot down at the time. Also, an hour after writing this my little poo fearing tot did her first poo in the big toilet! I am in no way saying this poem encouraged her, but I would like to think that it helped!

Have you ever made up a potty training poem/song/dance for your LO?

Thanks for sharing your poetic skills.
This is timely as I feel as though we’re approaching endgame with our lad’s potty training. It seems to have been dragging on since June.
He doesn’t seem too worried about pooing; it’s getting him to wee where he should that’s the issue. He just doesn’t seem to be joining up the dots.

Great poem, and I’d definitely take credit for the poo if I was you! Not sure I ever made up a poem, but tbh think I’ve blocked most of it out, know I’d try anything to get through the day when mine were at that stage x

Hehe, this is so cute. Nope, haven’t made up a poem or song yet, but hey, after this inspiration I might just jot something down. Thanks for sharing

So funny! I make up little songs all the time but never remember them long enough to actually write them down. Take all the credit for the poo – your poetry was clearly an inspiration. #MMWBH

Absolutely love it! Well done to your beautiful girl 🙂 #MMWBH

Fantastic! When I potty trained my eldest we had a houseful of visitors decend. We were only on day two and he sat on the potty wherever he was when he needed it. He happened to be in our living room with about 10 visitors when he sat on the potty for 15 minutes doing the biggest and smelliest poo ever. Everyone cheered him though! #MMWBH

What a fab poem, the things we do when they are potty training. I am just going through potty training with Thing 5 and it’s going well at home, he’s dry all the time but at preschool it’s a different story. Let’s keep going! #MMWBH

Well done for being out of nappies! Doing a poo on the potty is a huge thing. Fab poem. My son had big trouble with doing poos on the potty, it took a long time. Glad to hear you are making some good steps.

Potty training is rough, poetry eases the pain. I took to decorating my son’s potty with digger stickers. He now thinks it is too beautiful to poo in! #MMWBH

Love this! I made songs up with Jack and he loved singing along #MMWBH

So funny! I have wiped the memory of potty training the Tubblet firmly from my mind for some reason …

I hope that this poem makes the curriculum for English GCSE in the future. “Now class, let’s analyse the iambic pentameter of the following sentence…’it might make a splash,
and make your bum a little cold’…”
