Planning a Unicorn Rainbow party

Planning a Unicorn Rainbow party

In 2wks time, my youngest daughter, my little Annabelle {who isn’t so little anymore!} will be turning five. FIVE!ย I’m currently living in a seat of denial and silently wishing {so incredibly hard} that she would slow down this growing up malarky.ย

I do, however, love planning her birthday parties! I have done a themed birthday party for her every year since her first birthday and her ideas for them just keep getting bigger & better. Of course, I delve into Pinterest for inspiration {who doesn’t?} and even though I have these grand visions of how it will look, they’re never as Pinterest worthy in real life – but to my little girl? They are the best parties, EVER! And I’ll take that as a win.ย

I also take it upon myself to bake their birthday cakes too, I’ve baked them all bar her 2nd birthday cake which a good friend of mine did – but this year, my little girl will get another Mum-made birthday cake. Last year she asked for a Finding Dory birthday cake and that’s exactly what she got. This year I am still trying to decide what cake she will get!ย

What ‘party theme’ has she asked for this year?

I’m assuming, you already know due to the title of this blog post! “I’d like a Unicorn Rainbow party, Mama!” – and that is exactly what I am trying to make happen for her. A rainbow unicorn party is certainly a fun combination but it’s a perfect one, too.ย

What will I be serving up at the party?ย

I will be making some rainbow cupcakes with the Wilton food gel that I bought off Amazon – so excited to use those – I hear good things! I plan to make some cloud topped cupcakes {frosting} with little rainbow fizzy belts! Super simple – yet effective – my speciality!ย

I will have fruit in some form or another served up, as always! I am not one of these party throwers who have an endless array of candy, sweets & crisps on the party table! I may make fruit kebabs or just make a rainbow style fruit platter – with four/five-year-olds I feel the platter is the safer option.ย

I’ll have a selection of sandwiches – which are never the favourite with the birthday girl or her mini-sized guests! But I have them made nevertheless. I usually just stick with cheese & ham because little ones have a tendency to be fussy!ย

I’ll do some white chocolate dipped breadsticks, with sprinkles! Almost like a little rainbow wand? As well as jelly beans as ‘Unicorn poop’, flumps as ‘Unicorn tails’ & finally golden chocolate coins because, what else do you find at the end of a rainbow?

What will I give out as party favours?

I usually go for the sweetie cone approach when doing party bags. It’s quick & simple and when you have 30 odd to make,ย it’s a good option to go with. Last year I made little party favour cups including bubbles, a little toy & some sweeties. Super simple and they looked super cute. However, this year, I got the idea off a lovely blogger – who I cannot remember the name of, so sorry! She shared the party favour idea on a Facebook group and Iย knew it was just perfect!

I will be making up little “Grow your own Fruit or Veg” party favours. I’ll get some small plant pots from Poundland, some soil, and lots of little seeds of lots of different things and make up little party favours for the kids. It’s something a little different and I think it’s such a lovely idea! Anything has to be better than sweets & fiddly toys, right? I’ll be sure to share those once I’ve put them together – maybe a blog post, who knows! Let me know if that’s something you would like to see.ย

So there you go, my Unicorn Rainbow party plans! I cannot wait but at the same time, I want to hold onto her being four for a little while longer. Can someone have a word with her for me? She’s clearly rushing to be a ‘big girl’ and isn’t listening to me! Haha!ย

Do you throw themed birthday parties for your children?ย
