How Busy Mums Can Find More Alone Time Every Day

When you’re a working mother or even just any mother, finding spare time for yourself can seem like a passing dream. You love your children and want to do everything you can for them, but without the necessary alone time you have likely found that you are often tired, and perhaps also stressed. This is doubly so when you are also pressed with concerns at work.

Thankfully, it is not only possible to find more alone time every day, you can also spend better quality time with your children. Taking an hour or two out of your day is not selfish, it is how you recharge. That way you can be a better mother, and a better employee. To help you find this alone time, try these suggestions:

1. Combine Chores with Quality Time It is in no way “cruel” to make your children do the chores with you. In fact, it is excellent to help them learn how to take care of themselves properly once they move away. Teach them how to clean, how to do laundry, and how to cook. Doing this will ensure you have raised well-adjusted and independent children who can take care of themselves and stay healthy. As a bonus, you get to spend the time with them, instead of allowing them to have fun on their own. That way, by the time you are done for the day, they’ll likely be ready to spend time playing either by themselves or with each other, and you can get a few hours to yourself.

2. Make it a Rule. Children thrive on stability and routine, so make your alone time part of their daily lives. At a certain time, go into your room and make it a rule that no children are allowed during the next hour unless it is an absolute emergency. You can even take turns with your partner so that when you are having your alone time, he is the one they should go to and vice versa.

What you do when you are in your room during this time is up to you. If you want to play Find the Bingo caller, go for it! If you want to have a nap, feel free to do so. Whatever you do, ensure you enjoy it and that you come out feeling relaxed and ready to go.

3. Go for Early Morning Walks Exercise is an excellent way to feel great, be healthy, and actually, have more natural energy. Going for early morning walks can help you benefit from the exercise throughout the day. You will also have the time to think, listen to music, or even listen to an eBook.

4. Make a Detour After Work. Another way you can get more alone time is to take an hour after work. Go to a café, and enjoy the peace that comes with being in a crowded place. So long as you feel relaxed, you’re doing well! Just ensure that you have someone taking care of your kids!

Alone time is crucial for relaxing, which is why everyone should have some alone time during the day – even busy mums!
