Good-bye Day Nappies!

GoodbyeDay Nappies! If you are a regular on my blog you’ll know that from January of this year we’ve attempted to potty train Annabelle a few times. Back in January she showed signs of being ready, so I brought down the potty and all of her accessories i.e. underwear, potty books etc. But after a week I realised that I had read her signs all wrong and she wasn’t ready at all. Fast forward to June and I decided to give it another go. But after a few days I realised again that even though the signs were there, her speech still wasn’t {you can read about that time here} so I decided to not try again until I was sure she was 100% ready.
11061685_804364979648995_3365831125879301410_nBut in October of this year her speech turned a massive corner and one day after watching her I decided to chance it and bring the potty down into the living room again. After a day or two of talking potties and showing her how they were used etc, she went in it for her first time.

Now, I’ll admit she was still unsure about the whole experience because when she did her wee-wees her first words were “Oh no” followed by a worried face and dramatic point into the potty. Bless her. But after a big fuss being made with lots of air pumping and cheering she was OK with what she had done was the right thing to do and her face lit up with pride.

That moment right there was the start of our potty training journey. Sure it took 10mths from introducing her the first time but that’s because she wasn’t ready. She may have been showing signs that she was, but deep down, she really wasn’t. Now, two weeks on and she’s using it entirely on her own without being prompted and also just starting to wear bottoms that she now pulls up and down herself. Beforehand the pants confused her and she’d have an accident, but after letting her go bare bummed for two weeks and slowly introducing her stage by stage, she’s getting there and we could not be more proud.

So we’ve officially said goodbye to day nappies at 2yrs & 9mths and the next stage will be to remove the downstairs potty and try to introduce her into going in her upstairs potty only. Hopefully teaching her to hold in that wee a little longer, so when that comes round I’ll keep you posted how we got on!

So before I end this post I’ll leave you with this…Annabelle in her first ever cloth nappy. No more pretty washing lines for us!

Aw well done annabelle. You are doing so great. She’s flying it. Honestly I haven’t had any attemptscsimvr that one a few weeks ago now. But he’s off for 2 weeks over Xmas. I’d say that might be the best time to try what you think?

Going out takes on a whole new meaning now. What do you mean you need to wee right this minute in the cheese aisle! Once we got through that stage I felt free. Got to to it all again now though! #MMWBH

This sounds remarkably like our eldest’s potty training journey. Took a while, but we got there. As for the youngest, couldn’t get out of ’em quick enough! Hope you get rid of the downstairs potty soon. Thanks for hosting #MMWBH

Well done Annabelle! Mine still doesn’t seem ready yet! She understands the potty and the principle and reports when she has used her nappy. But she does not seem to have grasped knowing when she needs to go. #MMWBH

Aww well done! We have potty trained our 2 1/2yr old over the last 2 weeks and this week has been the start of venturing outside with pants on! We too tried twice before but she just wasn’t ready, she’s very independent and very stubborn so we knew she would do it when she wanted to and in fact she is dry all night now too, she’s all or nothing!!
I’m glad your little one has been successful too, here’s to no more nappies!! 🙂
