Getting organised: Cleaning!

Believe it or not cleaning is something I used to really enjoy doing, before children! As when you did tidy up, pre-tiny tornadoes, it had this wonderful ability to stay that way and only need fixing up a little every day or so thereafter.
However with children, tidying up has become a tedious & 9/10ths of the time a pointless chore. Our home resembles chaos, things get moved from one place to another to make that one other place look perfectly neat, tidy & lovely. Whereas the other place, i.e. the dumping ground, looks like it’s been struck by a jumble sale cluttered hurricane. Sigh.

So I have decided with a fresh new year laid out before me that I would try and get my ass into the routine of an organised cleaning schedule. I’ll not lie, it hurts my feelings that this is what my life has turned into…making myself a cleaning schedule! Jeez…. So anyways here’s my lovely cleaning list that I put together and all being well I’ll have printed off, framed & hung up in my kitchen by the weekend. If all goes well and you know, time decides to work with me for a change.

Hopefully slicing the tasks into lists will make it all seem a little less daunting, overwhelming and generally heavy on the shoulders of a wee Mummy trying to sail a ship single-handed! As that’s what we do right? As our men go out to work each day, we man the sails and everything else associated with keeping everything in order & ship shape.

I’m not ashamed to say it’s tough, the juggling of children, school runs, appointments, blog work and tantrums. It’s hard work keeping our ship afloat some days, most days it resembles a wreckage. So I’m hoping this new schedule really helps me cut myself a little more slack & remind myself that not everything needs doing that same day.

Do you go by a cleaning schedule? Any tips you could share?

A woman after my own heart! I love a clean, fresh and tidy home! My nick name was Monica! LOVE the list – so pretty! The house is actually really tidy at the moment and I am doing my best to keep it that way. I think our cleaning schedules are very similar. LOVE this! xxx

I could do with taking a bit more of a structured approach, I’m terrible. I’ll start cleaning then decide the room needs a full clear out, everything from cleaning & defrosting the fridge to scrubbing & organising the pantry, all at the same time then the hubby will come home to food stacked all over the kitchen as I the kids needed me to do something else!

I love a nice clean tidy house as well, it makes you feel good seeing the results after you’ve slaved away. I don’t have a cleaning schedule in place but I did invest in a local cleaner. I just found it so hard juggling work and family life and was stressing out the house wasn’t clean enough. The other half and I don’t go out much or buy wine etc at the supermarket every week so this is why I justified having a cleaner, plus they’re £8 an hour which is a bargain really. I’ve even noticed more people investing in cleaners now with all the stresses of modern family life. Well done to you for taking a more structured approach to cleaning, you’ll probably find you’re more productive now 🙂

You are so organised! One of my NY resolutions was to be more organised, and I have written down in my diary what tasks need doing when, but to have such a pretty visual reminder on display would be much more helpful! x

Ooh I LOVE this post – thank you for sharing! I’m ashamed to say I hate cleaning and I’ve been ‘working on’ my cleaning schedule for about 3 months now. Oops. I thought it would inspire me but it actually was added to the ‘later’ pile. Your post has given me the encouragement I need to get sorted!!! It can be another of my NY resolutions! Mim 🙂 #MMWBH

This makes me feel like such a lazy sluttern! I must only wipe my skirting boards once a year and the window frames um…but seriously I love making lists and will hopefully one day get into some sort of proper routine! Xx

This is such a simple but effective idea. I am rubbish at this type of thing. Without wanting to make excuses, with working full-time and shift work and everything else, I find it impossible to keep up. All I want to do at the weekend is chill out with the boys. Luckily my mum’s just retired and I’ve started paying her to help me out with housework and ironing. I know it seems a but ‘princessy’ but she enjoys doing it and feels she’s helping out and it certainly relaxes me knowing things are being done. I got a bit of flak from people when I first told them, even when I told the it was a financial agreement between me and my mum but it works for us and I also know how very lucky I am to have my mum and dad around me 🙂 #MMWBH
